“No ways. I’m the president of the man haters club, and my dad is the VP.” The club was my dad's idea. Though we haven’t had a meeting in a handful of years.

“How do I get in?”

“Oh, like you need an invite to do anything.” I laugh. I have to admit that it is kind of hot. Nothing stops Ronan when he’s got his mind set on something. I’m not complaining that I happen to be that something.

“It’s fine, I suppose.”

“Fine, you’re in. Don’t say I never gave you anything.”

“I’d never say that.” Ronan takes his eyes off the road momentarily to glance me up and down.

I love the way his eyes eat me up. “No one has ever looked at me the way you do.”

“It better stay that way, or they won’t be able to look at anything else again.”

“Ronan!” I bite back a laugh but still want to hear more. “Are you saying you’d cut their eyes out or kill them?”

“Why choose when you can have both?” I burst into laughter. “You think that’s funny, little fox?”

“It’s like mob-style foreplay,” I tease, but we both know he would do that. I can’t even imagine the fear he stokes in grown men.

When my obsession with Ronan started to bloom, I read anything I could about him. The stories should have scared me, but they only pulled me further in, my intrigue with him always growing.

It's like an unstoppable virus that you can’t contain or eradicate. It spread through me at a rapid pace, and there aren't any treatments for love. I googled that too with no such luck.

"Everything with you, to me, is foreplay."

"You've been playing the long game."

"It almost killed me, but my dick wasn't going to get in the way of the progress I was making with you. I know I'll have a lifetime of having my way with your body." I want to deny that. Tell him that maybe I'll let him have his way with me again, but it's bullshit, and Ronan can see right through that shit.

Ronan can see me in ways no one else ever could.

Chapter Nineteen

RONAN

There is now a lightness to Ellie that hasn’t been there before. She’s relaxed and more at ease. She has come to terms with the fact that she’s not in the battle alone. That people love and want to help her, and fighting that is fruitless. I hope a part of her is also taking back the power that Cyberius took from her to begin with.

“You think the girls are going to be that furious at me?” Ellie asks. We have made a plan to head back to the city, but the debate is between going to my place or out to the farm.

“I’m sure my sister is going to give you a lot of shit.” The girl can hold a grudge and wield it when needed. Tova will more likely just be happy to see Ellie and forget all about being mad at her. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body.

“But I helped her get out of the country. I should have credit saved up.”

“Good luck with that.” I smirk over at her. I’m not getting between the three girls. In fact, the three of them together can be terrifying. It might be best to keep them apart, but that will never happen. As much as I want to be Ellie's world, Tova and Cosima are like sisters to her, and they have a different bond between them. It's good for my Ellie, and I'll always make sure she's getting what she needs.

When I pull back onto the compound, I spot a truck that’s never been here before. It's parked in front of a house that is two down from Ellie, which is about a half a mile. All the houses out here are spread out.

"The Adams have a son, correct?" I ask Ellie. That's my guess as to who that is. No one gets onto the property without Frank being aware. There are sensors that trigger and send back an alert to him. Just like I'm sure he knows we're back too.

"Yeah, Nick." Ellie's head turns toward their house. "Oh, he's back home." Her nose scrunches.

"You don't care for him?"

"Man hater club," she teases. "Do you know everyone that lives here?"

"Yes." I never forget a face or name. Just like I could close my eyes and tell you where every single freckle is on Ellie.

"If you meet a person once, how likely will you remember it? Like the people at the coffee shop?" First, I tell her everything I remember from the basic descriptions, and then I discuss other notable aspects about them. Things I could use if I needed to track them down. “Oh, you recall all that about the girls?” She narrows her eyes on me.
