“You can’t sleep in the bath, princess.”
“I’m going to treasure this with you always.”
Alfie finished getting her cleaned up, and put her to bed.
On the way downstairs, he offered to go out and get some soup. He needed to clear his head.
He didn’t know what was happening to him anymore. Not when it came to Chloe. What had started out as a revenge trick was becoming a little more complicated.
Alfie knew deep down he should just walk away. With his dad now involved, his options were limited. The moment his dad proposed, Alfie didn’t have any way out.
Do you want to?
This again was fucking irritating. Whenever he was away from Chloe, he couldn’t stop thinking about her, and imagining life without her sucked, which in itself was fucking insane. Crazy insane. He’d spent so much of his life hating this chick, and now, he actually enjoyed spending time with her.
When did it all change?
What the fuck happened to him?
Nothing made any sense, and now he was walking to the diner to go and get soup.
Ian and Riley, even they didn’t mind hanging out with Chloe.
Entering the diner, he ordered a couple of cartons of their chicken soup and some burgers for him and his dad.
The club had noticed a change in Eagle though as well. He spent a great deal of time with Lily, and it would seem that woman would make a good, honest man out of anyone.
Waiting for his order, he noticed Kurt lurking around outside on his cell phone. It was the first time he’d seen the man since his apparent cheating.
Grabbing his order, Alfie headed outside just as Kurt finished up a call.
“Hey, kid,” he said.
“Kurt.”
“What are you doing?”
“I’m taking some food to—” He didn’t know what to say. “What are you doing here?”
“I can’t do it. I’ve got to try and win Lily back, man.” Kurt ran fingers through his hair. “I’m not going to come crawling back to the club.”
“Are you high?”
“No. I mean, I’ve had a couple of joints.”
Alfie looked toward his arms, but in the darkness couldn’t see any signs of track marks. It didn’t look good.
“I’ve got to go.”
“I’m heading over to Lily’s. I bet she’s missed me. She always loved me, and I know I can win back her love.”
Alfie paused, counted to ten, and turned. “It’s not a good idea for you to go to Lily’s.”
“Why the fuck not? Look, kid, you may be Eagle’s brat, but I don’t have to sit around and put up with your shit.”
“She’s moved on, and you need to get out of town.”
“Moved on? That’s not possible.”
“She has. You coming back here, it’s only going to upset her.”
“Who?” Kurt asked.
Alfie stared at the man. If Kurt decided to start something, he would be able to take him, no doubt about it. Kurt wasn’t a fighter. He acted all hard, but he’d also seen this guy curl up into a ball and beg for whoever it was to stop hurting him. He’d cried like a little girl, and what made it worse, it had been a friendly play fight and Kurt had gotten knocked down by accident as he’d not even been part of it. That was why none of the club liked him, why they tried to avoid him like the fucking plague.
“You need to leave.”
“It’s Eagle, isn’t it?” Kurt asked.
Alfie said nothing. If Eagle married Lily one day, the entire town would know. With Kurt here now, he was surprised he didn’t already know.
“You think I didn’t notice the way he’d look at her? How he’d react whenever she was around? That piece of shit couldn’t stand that I had her. Could he? I knew he had a thing for her, but I figured he got over that shit when he was banging all the other women he liked to party. If he thinks Lily will go to him, pick him over me, he’s got another think coming. There’s no way, and I mean no way, I’m letting that happen. He couldn’t keep his dick in his pants for two minutes.”
“Neither could you, and last I checked, my dad is being faithful. You don’t have a chance at this, Kurt. You should back the fuck away. Or you will get hurt.”
“Is there a problem here?” Eagle asked, coming toward them.
His father looked menacing.
“You took way too long with the soup, son. Lily said to check on you.”
Alfie nodded toward Kurt.
“You should get out of town, Kurt. You’re not wanted here.”
“You mean because you’re so busy fucking my wife.”
“She’s your ex-wife, and I always knew she deserved better than you.”
“You’re going to regret this, you piece of shit. Both of you. You think you can do that to me, ruin my life and then take my place in my family? You’ve got another think coming.”
