The guttural sound of “Emily” rolling off his tongue just aroused her. Also, he had been kind to her. She didn’t know why he’d kidnapped her. She figured it was the hatred between her father and him, and this was his way for revenge.
“I’m sorry,” she said.
And with that, he took possession of her lips. All nervousness left her.
Was she still a lame doormat? Probably, but right now, with those firm lips against hers, she could handle just about anything he had to throw at her. She felt like flicking her leg right up, like they seemed to do in the movies. Yep, she was still lame, but now for other reasons.
Dom broke the kiss first, and then took her hand, and they started to walk outside. The sun was shining, which was why she had picked the white summer dress she found in the wardrobe, which she now shared with Dom.
Everything was changing so fast, she struggled to keep up.
They walked outside, and that was when she was surprised to see a small decked area near the main garden, with a couple of seats, a table, along with food.
“I wanted to take you to lunch, but seeing as my chef is the best in the city, I figured you wouldn’t mind eating outside.”
It looked so romantic and so perfect, right out of her novels. Was Dom being romantic? She didn’t want to get her hopes up. This was not a love match, but a sex match, perhaps, maybe. What kind of man gave a marriage ultimatum? It wasn’t exactly something she had heard of. Dom wanted to marry her, and she was more than willing to do it, just so they could have sex. It sounded crazy and insane, and yet she was doing it.
“This is … incredible.”
“I’ve got several wedding dresses arriving this afternoon,” Dom said, as he helped her into her chair.
“You have?”
“Yes, your mother will also be arriving, along with my soldiers as well as my staff. We’re getting married here.”
This was news to her.
“My mother?” she asked.
“Yes.”
“You know my mother?”
Dom was silent as he moved to sit opposite her. “I don’t know her all that well, but we are acquainted.”
She nodded her head and then frowned. “Wait, how is this possible?”
“She knows who I am.”
She held her hand up and shook her head. “No, I’m not talking about how she knows you. I’m talking about the fact that she knows I am here with you and you kidnapped me.”
Dom smiled. There was something going on here, and she knew she didn’t have the whole story, probably not even part of the story. Nothing seemed to make sense at this moment.
“What’s going on?” she asked.
Dom sighed. “You know your father hasn’t called me requesting any ransom or anything.”
She felt her cheeks heat. It wasn’t lost on her that her father didn’t give a shit about her. “So? I’m guessing he knows where I am and figures you will get bored.”
“He was going to sell you,” Dom said.
“What?”
“That is why I took you. Your mother knew what he was doing. I don’t know how she knew, but she found out, and she didn’t like it. She reached out to me and asked that I take care of her daughter. A few years ago, she helped me, and it was my turn to help her. She didn’t want her daughter sold to anyone.”
This was all news to her. Her mother helping Dom. Her father wanting to sell her.
“How?” Emily asked.
“Your virginity.”
She couldn’t help but open her eyes wide. “My virginity?”
“Your father wanted to sell it, had every intention of selling it. Several billionaire businessmen will pay a fortune for a virgin. You were on the chopping block. Blonde hair, blue eyes, virginal, there is high demand for you.”
She opened her mouth and closed it.
“And you came to save me?” she asked.
“I returned a favor.”
“What did my mom do?”
“She made me aware of a deal that was happening. I know I’m not a good man, I don’t claim to be, but I have a set of morals. Your father was attempting to manipulate those morals. Nora … sent me guidance, and I told her that anything she wanted would be hers. Three months ago, she called me, asked if I was willing to keep my word. That is when she told me what she knew was happening. She didn’t want you sold. That was why she got out of that life, but she knew you wanted a relationship with your father.”
Emily rubbed at her temple. “I’m a fool.”
“You’re not a fool.”
“I’m not? Look at the mess I nearly got into.” She shook her head. “Only a fool would get into that crazy kind … ugh, I should have known. He didn’t care about me one bit growing up.” She felt so stupid. “You must think I am a fool.”
