“I’m going to do everything in my power to keep you safe.”

“I know. You’ll do anything for me.”

And with that, he pressed his lips to hers. Emily didn’t know how it was possible, but she had finally found the place she called home.

Epilogue

Ten Years Later

Dom watched his wife as she sat with their four children around the Christmas tree. Three boys and one girl—Dominic, Sean, Andrew, and Carly. Their four babies he felt so much love for, it scared him.

“You did good,” Nora said.

He looked toward his mother-in-law and smiled. Ten years ago, she had killed her ex-husband. Not only had she pleaded self-defense, but it also appeared Nora had been compiling evidence against Nigel for years.

There was a reason Nora had known about Emily’s sale. She’d been working in the background, trying to put her ex away. Instead, she put him in the ground, and since her work, she continued to put criminals away. All but him.

“Tell me, Nora, after ten years, why have the cops not come knocking at my door?” Dom asked.

Nora chuckled.

“I have no doubt you have the means to put me away for a long time.”

His mother-in-law turned toward him and shrugged. “I don’t. You were never a bad person. Sure, you did bad things because you didn’t have a choice. Where my ex was a nasty piece of shit, you had … standards. You didn’t lower yourself for a quick buck. Also, you happen to make my daughter very happy. You protected her when no one else would. You love my daughter, and you like to pretend you’re not, but deep down you’re a good man, Dom.”

And with that, Nora walked away from him, taking over from Emily, who got to her feet and came toward him.

“Merry Christmas,” she said, throwing her arms around him.

He caught her easily.

“And Merry Christmas to you.” He took possession of her lips, and so his kids didn’t make any grossed-out noises, he picked her up in his arms and carried her into the kitchen.

Pressing her up against the kitchen counter, he heard the unmistakable sound of her soft moan.

“You’re driving me crazy,” he said.

“You think this is driving you crazy, wait until you see what I’ve got in store for you tonight…” She had that wicked glint in her eyes.

Ten years of marriage, four children, and never once has his attraction to her waned. She was everything to him.

“So, what should I expect from my lame doormat?” he asked.

She had told him she feared that was how he saw her. She had no idea how he saw her.

“Well, you’ll have to be naked in our bed to find out.”

And with that, she pulled away, and he watched as she went to the oven and pulled out some freshly baked cookies. Emily had given Alfie the time off.

He couldn’t believe his life, how lucky he had gotten, all because he did a good deed and answered the call.

Emily was his wife, and she would always be his.

He’d never let her go, and he would always do whatever he could to make her happy.
