Maeve looked at him, and she wasn’t afraid. He knew what he was doing, and she went onto her tiptoes and kissed him. She loved him for taking care of everything.
“Why were Savage and Mac in the car?” Maeve asked.
“They had started to lose their patience. Razor and I are better shots. We were close to the shop and ready to take her out if she started to shoot.”
He kissed the top her head and she looked toward Charlotte, who was hugging her mother. She then turned her attention to Mac. He was standing with Eden and Razor, checking in with them.
Turning her attention to Savage, he was staring intently at Charlotte. Before she could even wonder what that meant, Doc was pulling her out of the shop. Sheriff Hayes was in control and the two men nodded at each other.
“Where are we going?” Maeve asked.
“To grab coffee and a donut, then I’m taking you home so we can fuck and make this baby.”
Epilogue
Five Years Later
“Play nice,” Maeve said, handing Doc their firstborn son, Andrew.
Doc turned his attention to her, and he didn’t look happy. Charlotte and her man were just across the parking lot.
“I always play nice.”
Maeve tried not to wince. That wasn’t exactly true. Charlotte and Savage had caused a whole lot of drama between the club, or more importantly, between Doc and Savage. Their secret affair had been exposed, and it was the first time Maeve had really appreciated that Nancy hadn't left, otherwise there was a chance Doc could have killed the man. It had been tense. She and Nancy guarded him around the clock.
Maeve grabbed Doc’s chin and forced her husband to look at her. “I’m right here.”
“I’m fine. He better be treating her right.”
“You better start treating me right,” she said, giving him a warning look.
He kissed Andrew on the cheek. “How are you feeling?”
“I’m tired, but that is to be expected.” She rubbed her swollen stomach.
“Mommy!” She turned to see Nancy coming out of the clubhouse, carrying her second child.
She and Nancy were good friends. She would consider them the best of friends. There was no animosity or jealousy. Charlotte loved that her mom and stepmom got along great.
“This one is a handful,” Nancy said, placing Erica within her arms.
Erica and Andrew were her son and daughter, and they had a third on the way. During her pregnancy, Doc had confided in her that he didn’t think he was the best father, that with Charlotte he felt he made a lot of mistakes. There was no doubt in her mind that Doc was a good father.
In the last five years, she married this man, bore him two children, with a third on the way, and seen the way he handled everything from the club, to the town, to the sheriff. He was a good man, a solid man.
She also accepted that he was a good man that had to do a shit ton of bad things. Like the news that Hilary was discovered dead in her jail cell from a drug overdose. She didn’t need to ask questions but knew it was a message from Doc.
He took care of the town. No one fucked with the people, otherwise, he killed you.
But like Eden loved Razor, Maeve loved Doc, and she wouldn’t have him any other way.
She married him knowing what kind of man he was.
He was loyal to her, he loved her, and they were happy.
