I know War and Z would be having a damn field day if they heard the way I’m describing her. Never in my life have I thought or said such mushy stuff. Ellie draws it out of me. She makes me want to be different. To be whatever she needs me to be to guarantee her happiness.

I'm not sure why, but the moment I laid eyes on her, she drew me in. There is a pull that I can’t explain, nor does it matter. She’s mine, and that’s all there is to it.

When I enter her bedroom, she is still fast asleep. I grab the chair, moving it to sit beside the bed, and simply watch her. The small breaths she takes, her chest rising and falling. She looks beautiful, her red hair spread across the pillow. She reminds me of an angel, so peaceful. It’s soothing to me. Again, why, I have no fucking clue, and still that doesn’t matter.

Honestly, nothing else matters but her to me. I’m not sure how long I’ve been sitting here before she starts to stir.

“Ronan.” She mutters my name, still half asleep. My stomach tightens at the softness of her tone. She needs me. She may not be ready to admit it, but her body knows. Even in sleep, it can sense me.

It’s as if the world catches up to her because a second later she’s sitting up and flipping on the light, blinding herself.

“Shit,” she grumbles, her eyes closing, her nose scrunching. “Oh my God, you’re real.” Ellie says this when she finally manages to open one eye.

“Thought you’d dreamed me up?”

“Don’t give yourself a big head.” She flops back down onto the bed, pulling the blanket over her head, hiding herself. I can’t have that. I slowly pull the blanket back down so she knows it's coming.

"Morning, little fox."

"It's night now." My girl obviously isn't a morning person.

"I stand corrected."

"So you're saying I'm right."

"You're right." Ellie sits back up.

"You said that way too easily." She squints her eyes at me as though she’s skeptical.

“Saying the truth is always the easiest.” I shrug my shoulders. “Even a broken clock is right twice a day.” Ellie lets out an adorable little huff, acting like I’m exasperating to her. “How are you feeling now that you got some rest?” I lean forward, needing to be closer to her.

“Confused.” She lets out a huff, blowing some of her red waves out of her face. Ellie blinks a few times. “I messed up.”

“How so?” Her cheeks flush, and she nibbles on her bottom lip. A clear tell that she either doesn’t want to say or is leery to.

“This is about Cyberius?” That has her releasing her bottom lip.

“How did you…” She trails off, and I can tell she’s searching her mind.

“It was my trap. I had to lure you both so I could find out who you are hiding from.” Her mouth opens and closes.

“You lured us with masturbation!” I throw my head back and laugh. “I didn’t know Cyberius swung that way.”

The look on Ellie’s face tells me she doesn’t find any humor in this. Actually, it looks as though she might be a little jealous thinking Cyberius may have seen me stroking myself. I fight the urge to smile wide and push down the urge to ruffle her feathers, knowing we need to have this conversation.

“No, I lured you with that. You lured Cyberius out.” That thought had any laughter I had dying. “Z helped set the trap. He wasn’t sure who you might be hiding out from, and I knew you weren’t going to tell me.”

“How would I tell you? We don’t talk. I don’t know you.”

“You don’t know me?” I cock my head. Those cheeks of hers flush again, her fair skin unable to hide anything.

"You know what I mean."

"No, I don't."

"I don't even understand why you're here. Are you worried I'll bring my problems to your family's doorstep?"

"I wish you would have. Then I wouldn't have had to set a trap. We wouldn’t have had to do this little dance and waste time.” I smirk. "Though it was fun."

Her eyes narrow. "You act like you set lots of traps for me."

"Haven't I?"

She shifts on the bed. "What's that mean?"

"You stopped watching me, so I went to the brothel."

Her eyes widen. "You went there for sex." She wipes her mouth with the back of her hand. "And you kissed me with that mouth."

"I went to the brothel to provoke you." Her lips press together, forming a straight line. She's adorable when she's grouchy and jealous. I keep those thoughts to myself.

“Why would that provoke me?” Ellie finally says after a beat, lifting her chin.

“We don’t have to address the stalking and your obsession with me if you don’t want to.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about!” She jumps up from the bed, almost knocking into me.
