“You bet your sweet ass I am, baby. I want a kiss. On the lips.”

“Do you want to time us as well there, buddy?”

“No, once we start, I know it will last a sufficient amount of time.”

“I don’t know if you’re crazy or not.”

“I’m definitely crazy. No doubt about that one.” He ran his hand down to her ass. “The kid gloves are coming off.” He squeezed her ass and pulled her close to him so she was flush against his body. Fortunately, he had his dick completely under control, but that was about it. “I’m going to fight for you, Chloe.”

“You’re really not wasting any time.”

“I wasted too much of it and ended up watching you go. I’m not doing it again.” He stroked a finger down her cheek. “You mean too much to me, and I already lost you once. All of my cards will be out on the table. There will be no one else. Not now, not ever, that will compare to you.”

“Alfie?”

He pressed his lips to hers, taking her hands and putting them around his neck, exactly where they should be. With his hands back on her hips, he slowly began to move to the beat of the music.

“You do know how to dance.”

“Five years of practice, I kind of got the handle of it. I could swing you around this dance floor, but right now, you’re likely to end up with a concussion from smacking into everyone.”

She burst out laughing. “Wow.”

“What?”

“It’s like I’ve never been gone with you.”

“Like the last five years were a sick fucking joke?” he asked.

“Yes.”

She rested her head against his chest, and Alfie wanted to fist pump the world. This was more than he could ask for.

Several people would look their way, but he ignored them. Word was already out after what he did in the diner, Chloe was off limits. The memory of the “fair fuck,” which was what it had been known as, had to be forgotten.

He wasn’t playing around this time.

When it came to Chloe, he was going to win her fair and square.

They danced for two hours straight, and rather than go home, Chloe went back to his apartment. He lived about a twenty-minute ride from the clubhouse. The apartment block was a nice one though, a great neighborhood. The block itself only had enough for twenty residents at one time, so it wasn’t a huge building, and Alfie lived on the second floor.

“If I’m lucky, Ian and Riley are not here.”

“They live with you?”

“No. Ian’s got his own place above the clothing store, and Riley still lives with his dad until he can find a place. Out of all of us, Riley likes to spend his money on strippers.”

“And you don’t.”

“There’s only one pair of tits I’ve wanted to see. The only time I’m at the titty place is when I’m ordered to go as part of club duty.”

“You really don’t want to see anyone else?”

He opened the door, and the light was off.

“Does it mean it your friends are not here?”

“No. They like to crash here.” Alfie closed the door and took off. She stepped into his apartment expecting to find beer cans and mess, and instead, she found a really nice place.

She looked around, seeing a small television and a gaming unit. He had a sofa and a chair, both of them matched in color.

There were shelves with a couple of books or figurines and pictures. She stepped up to the one on the far side and picked it up.

It was a picture of her and Alfie, taken on the bleachers, when he convinced her to spend the afternoon dodging teachers.

When Lily found out she skipped a class, her mother had been so mad and told her it had to be the only time she did anything crazy. Her education always came first.

“They’re not here,” Alfie said.

She put the picture back and saw one that made her frown.

“How did you get this?” Chloe asked, picking one up with her mother. She wore a chef’s uniform, and her mother held a plate of food. It had been one of the events at the culinary school.

“I, erm, I stole it.”

“How did you even know about it?”

“Your mom dropped it after they got developed.”

“Oh.”

“I didn’t return it. I was so happy for you, and I saw how happy you were. I knew I couldn’t come and get you.”

She put the photo down. “You wanted to?”

“You think I just wanted to live my life waiting for you to come home?”

“You had an out, Alfie.”

“It was an out I didn’t want.” He shrugged. “You think this has been easy for me? I knew where you were. I wanted to make it up to you, but I knew coming to you at the school, it wouldn’t help my cause. You had this plan even before me, and I wasn’t going to come between you and your dreams.”
