A couple of sharp gasps of surprise permeated his awareness beyond the soft moan from Andrei’s throat and Lucas reluctantly broke off the kiss. Sunday brunch at one of the most popular spots in Cincinnati was not the best place for them to explore their newfound status. He winked at Andrei who was blushing but still smiling before turning to the hostess who was standing with a stunned look on her face.

“If…if you’re ready…”

“After you, my dear,” Lucas said smoothly, squeezing Andrei’s hand still tightly held in his.

Lucas followed behind the young lady, weaving through the crowded restaurant decorated in warm woods, golden highlights, and holiday centerpieces. Silverware clinked and conversation buzzed around the room, but Lucas barely noticed. He was only aware of the warm hand holding his and that he was about to take a very big step in his own world. He’d never thought this far ahead. His mind had never traveled farther than convincing Andrei to take that next step with him. He’d never considered what it would mean for himself.

As they neared the Lyntons’ table, Lucas nearly groaned when he saw they were in the center of the massive room as if they’d been put on display. A scene would be easily observed by everyone and that wouldn’t help settle Andrei’s fears about his place in Lucas’s world or about being gay in this city. Lucas pasted a mild smile on his lips, willing his heart to slow down, while his mind scrambled to devise contingency plans if the Lyntons didn’t accept his new openness.

His stomach sank when he saw Marilyn’s eyes catch on their joined hands first. Her little bow mouth fell open in a perfect O for a moment before she lifted bright blue eyes to him.

“Well, it’s about damn time,” she announced before Lucas could even greet them. Andrei laughed, leaning his shoulder into Lucas’s, lifting shining dark eyes to him. Yeah, he couldn’t agree more.
