“Room service,” I grumble against his broad chest. Just then, Theo’s phone rings.

“It’s the detective calling,” he says before answering it. “Christakos.”

“Okay. I will. Yes. She read it online first. Okay. Yes. Thank you.” He ends the call and sits next to me on the bed, then pulls me onto his lap. “Sorry. He said they need to talk to us about his death. They said it’s routine follow up stuff.”

“I suppose we should get going then?” I sigh. I never want to be away from Theo, and I know once we’re back, work will be waiting for him.

He tips my chin with his thumb, caressing my jaw and staring into my eyes with his sexy ones. “I hate to cut our honeymoon short, but I promise I’ll make it up to you. In fact, I have a trip to Miami planned.”

“I can’t wait.” My heart beats wildly for him and I can’t hold back. I let loose, kissing him until we fall onto the bed for one last round of fucking before we head home.

Epilogue

Theo

Five Years Later

I brush the stray hairs off her face and kiss her soft little hand. “She’s beautiful, Phoebe. Just like you, my love.” My daughter is hours old and is the most precious thing ever. We already have two boys, and they were perfect, but my little princess stole my heart. I thought I never wanted a daughter because she’d be too beautiful and I’d have to kill some bastards, but that changed the moment she opened her eyes and looked at me.

“She is such a doll,” the doctor says, coming into the room to do the routine check-up on the baby.

“Thank you.” I set the baby down and help him with his examination.

“Everything is wonderful. Her hearing test came back normal, and all of her vitals are perfect. You can take her home tomorrow.” He turns his attention to my wife, which instantly sets my teeth on edge. He’s lucky I have baby Persephone in my arms. “Mrs. Christakos, your doctor will be in shortly to check on you.” Sensing my stare, he quickly leaves us alone.

The boys are with Diego and Griselda and will be here in the morning before I take my family home. I walk up to my wife with our little girl. “How are you feeling?”

“Tired.” I can see the fatigue on her lovely face, and it breaks my heart. She gave me three babies in five years. She laughs about being bored when we first got together. Now she can’t find the time for more than me and the boys. I didn’t want her to work because it was dangerous and will always be. She’s mentioned going to work after the kids grow up, but I keep putting another one in her because I still don’t want her to work. We don’t need the money, and she should be treated like the queen she is.

“I’m sorry, my love. I wish you would take the meds.” She went through the labor without anything for the pain. Her mother’s drug addiction destroyed her confidence to avoid addiction.

“No. I can’t, Theo. I can’t ever risk becoming my mother. The ibuprofen is enough to handle the pain.”

“Fine. I’m here for you either way. And I’d never let you get hooked on drugs.” I kiss her forehead and whisper, “I need you and won’t lose you to anything or anyone.”

“I know. I’m fine. Please hand her to me so I can feed my sweet girl.”

“Then both of you will sleep,” I command.

“I know I will. I can’t be sure she will listen to her daddy’s orders.”

“It’s okay. Then I’ll just hold my sweet princess until she does.”

I watch as she breastfeeds our baby, and I’m in love. All I need are my sons to hold, as well. In ten minutes, they are both knocked out. I take my little girl, burping her and then laying her down in her hospital bassinet while I cradle my wife—my reason to exist.
