She certainly wanted to try.

But she seemed to have pushed Greer too far.

With a sound that was half-growl, half-snarl, her big Protector turned sharply. Sunny gasped as the world shifted around her, only to find her bare back pressed to the rough, warm wall of the hut.

“You asked for this, little one,” he growled in her ear. “Now you’re going to fucking get it!”

Then he started moving.

His big hands gripped her hips, holding her exactly where he wanted her, as his shaft slid hot and thick, along the full length of her slit. Up and down, slow at first, then faster, rubbing her clit just right until she was panting in his ear and digging her nails into the hard muscles of his back.

“Oh, Greer… oh my God—don’t stop!” she moaned. “Oh, that feels so good!”

He didn’t stop.

“Fucking take it,” he growled in her ear, his long fingers digging into her flesh as he held her in place. “Fucking take it all, baby. Hold still and keep your pussy spread wide for me!”

“I…I’m trying to!” Sunny moaned, loving how helpless he made her feel. Each time he pressed against her, he made her see stars, her body jerking in his hold as wave after wave of heat coiled tighter and tighter inside her.

Before she knew it, she was right on the edge. Oh God, was she really going to come on his cock, right here, as he rubbed against her?

Apparently so, because suddenly she was up and over the edge as pleasure rushed through her.

“Greer!” She wailed his name like a prayer. “Oh my God, you’re making me come…making me comes so hard!”

“Fuck!” Greer groaned, low and rough, and she felt the thickness pressed against her swell even thicker. Then spurt after spurt of his cum pulsed against her belly, hot and sticky between them.

The mutual orgasm seemed to last forever and then, at last, the pleasure ebbed. For a while, all Sunny could do was cling to her Protector, shaking and breathless.

Greer continued to support her, his arms locked around her thighs. His head was thrown back and she could see his fangs—long and sharper than she could ever remember seeing them. Did he want to bite her? A shiver ran through her at the thought. God, wasn’t that how Blood Kindred Bonded a woman to them? Would Greer want to do that to her? And did she want him to?

The questions raced through her head, but before she could even try to answer any of them, Greer pulled away from her. He looked down between them at the white cum painting both their bellies…and his expression changed.

“Fuck.” He shook his head, his voice harsh. “Goddess damn it—I came all over you!”

Sunny bit her lip.

“I came all over you, too,” she pointed out. “It’s just that you’re a little messier. It’s no big deal—we can clean it up.”

The expression on his face turned hard.

“We’ll clean it up, all right. But we can’t do this again, Sunny—not ever.”

The words hit her like a slap.

She swallowed hard, her chest tightening.

“Does being with me really bother you that much?” she asked, her voice stiff, the hurt bleeding through despite her best efforts. “You really never want to be anything but my Protector? Never…anything else?”

His jaw worked, but he didn’t answer. He looked away, not meeting her eyes.

Sunny had all the answers she needed.

“All right. Well, put me down then,” she said coldly. Or she tried to sound cold. Unfortunately, tears were threatening—she could feel her eyes stinging. What was so wrong with her? Why didn’t he want her?

“I’m sorry,” Greer muttered.

He set her on the edge of the bed, then turned and stalked into the bathroom without another word, leaving her staring at his broad back until he was out of sight.

Sunny swiped at the tears on her cheeks and tried not to cry. What was wrong with her? What was wrong with him?

What would it take to make him love her? Or was there just no way at all?

She didn’t know and it didn’t seem like she would get answers anytime soon.

SUNNY

Sunny sighed. Greer hadn’t spoken to her all morning.

Not one word.

Oh, he’d made a few noncommittal grunts when she asked him to pass something, but otherwise he’d been all sharp edges and silence, his massive shoulders hunched as if he was trying to block her out completely.

Breakfast in the Communal Hut was… an experience. She’d been served a steaming mug of something the color of liquid emeralds that tasted faintly like mint tea mixed with fresh-cut grass. Alongside it were wedges of spongy, coral-colored bread dotted with black seeds that popped pleasantly between her teeth. She’d been enjoying it—at least until the servers brought out a communal bowl of thick, shimmering gray goo.

Sunny leaned to sniff it and had to fight not to gag—it smelled faintly of seawater and old socks.
