She rolls her eyes and shakes her head, but she’s looking more and more intrigued by the minute. I can see her leaning in ever so slightly and the sensual way she’s licking her lips.

“You’re impossible,” she says as she takes a seat. “Let’s just eat.”

I walk over beside her, place her napkin on her lap, and then take the silver dome off her plate with a flourish.

The chef made some delicious-looking grilled fish fresh from the ocean today. There’s also grilled jumbo shrimp, rice, asparagus, and a fresh salad.

My mouth is watering already, but that could be from standing over Becca and looking down at her mouth-watering cleavage. I’m not sure.

We sit down and dive into our dinner—drinking, eating, talking, and laughing.

Once we get into conversation, the tension and awkwardness go away. I love talking with her. I feel like we’ll never run out of things to say.

“What’s the weirdest thing about you,” I ask her.

She thinks about it for a few seconds and then grins. “I would like to be the first human that aliens make contact with.”

“What?!”

She laughs. “You said weirdest. That’s my weirdest.”

“You want to meet aliens?”

“Not necessarily, but if they came down to earth, I’d like to be the first one to greet them. I think I’d make a pretty good representative of the human race. I’d make them feel welcome while setting some firm intergalactic boundaries.”

I grin as I watch her. “I agree. Let’s just hope they don’t ruin our evening by landing on the beach tonight.”

“Or in the hot tub.”

“So, we’ll be in the hot tub later?”

She frowns, but there’s a playfulness in her eyes now. “What’s the weirdest thing about you? Besides having a crush on your stepsister.”

Her eyes fly wide open when she realizes what she said. “Not that you have a crush on me or anything. I just meant—”

“No, it’s okay,” I say, interrupting her. “I do.”

I just want to lay that to rest. I have feelings for her and I’m not shy about it at all.

“I think the weirdest thing about me is that my favorite movie is Dirty Dancing.”

She throws her head back and bursts out laughing.

“What? It’s a good movie.”

“I agree.”

“The songs are good, the dancing is good, the story is good. What’s not to like?”

She looks at me and then bursts into giggles again. “We’re so watching that after dinner.”

I grin as I eat a shrimp with a smile on my face. “I was hoping you’d say that.”

CHAPTER EIGHT

Becca

* * *

“I told you,” Ollie says when the movie finishes and I have a smile on my face. “It’s a pretty damn good movie.”

“Definitely in my top five,” I answer, although after this fun night, I think it might be closer to number one. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to see Patrick Swayze shaking his hips again without thinking of being here with Ollie.

We’re laying on the giant horseshoe-shaped couch in the living room with the fire going under the giant flatscreen TV. I groan as I push myself up.

“Well,” I say as I stretch out, knowing full well that my chest is sticking out and that my stepbrother is probably gawking at the cleavage I’m showing. I hold it for a few seconds longer than necessary. “I’m going to bed.”

“We can still have some fun,” he says as he lays on the couch, looking more tempting than I’ve ever seen him. The top few buttons of his shirt are open and his hair is all messy from laying on the pillow. For some reason, it’s really doing something for me. “We have the house to ourselves…”

“Rule number three,” I remind him. “No funny business.”

“You and your rules,” he says with a shake of his head. “When are you going to realize that breaking rules is way more fun than following them?”

“I don’t know,” I say as I get up. “But it won’t be tonight. Goodnight, Ollie.”

He sighs as he watches me leave. “Goodnight, Becca.”

“You’re going to watch the movie from the beginning again, aren’t you?” I ask with a grin as I leave the room.

“Just the dancing parts,” he calls out to me and I laugh.

I seem to have a permanent smile on my face as I head into my room, get washed up, put my pajamas on, and head into bed.

I’m still grinning at the funny things Ollie said or swooning when I remember how he bravely jumped into the water to escort me back to the boat. I start to wonder what would have happened if the shark had shown up. He probably would have punched him in the nose or scared him away with a stern look.

It looks like it’s going to be another night of tossing and turning. I can’t seem to sleep knowing that Ollie is so close by.

My eyes drift over to the top drawer of the dresser. I can’t do that tonight. It will help me fall asleep, but I can’t seem to bring myself to do it now that he knows I have Mr. Purple.
