“You worried, Officer Jenkins?”

Matt fights back a smile as he looks over at Bea. “Whatever would I need to be worried about? I’m married to the most gorgeous woman in town, and we have three wonderful kids.”

Suck-up.

Bea waves him off. “Such a sweet thing you are.”

“But we all know how wild Sadie can be,” Maggie reminds us, as if we could forget. “With Kenleigh being back in town, Lord almighty, everyone better start hiding their livestock and all the liquor.”

More laughter follows, and I mean, they’re not wrong. Matt lets out a booming laugh before shrugging. “I’m not worried a lick, Ms. Maggie. My girl does no wrong.”

I scoff at that and hook my thumb at him. “Says the guy who didn’t grow up here.”

That brings about all kinds of hooting and hollering. The place fills with stories of how the girls did so many things to torment everyone. Sadie stole a car once when she was twelve. She couldn’t even reach the pedals, but Missy could, so Sadie sat in Missy’s lap while she pushed the gas. Kenni was in the back, grinning the whole time. Then Kenni stole her daddy’s handcuffs and used them to handcuff Michael Riggs to the flagpole outside of school. Naked. All because he told people that Sadie gave him head after a football game. I would have kicked his ass, but everyone seeing his small dick was enough of a punishment, really. Kenni would have been caught by the cameras, but Missy shot them down with her daddy’s gun while Sadie stood beside her, grinning like she was holding the gun herself.

I snort at the memory, until Matt leans in. “Jasper called.” He’s the owner of the Thirsty Pine. “They’re at the Thirsty Pine, seven sheets to the wind and dancing on the bar.”

I close my eyes, shaking my head.

“Let me guess. They’re doing the Coyote Ugly dance?”

Matt’s eyes widen. “Yes, and I heard Sadie singing ‘Can’t Fight the Moonlight.’”

Fucking hell. Kenni’s been here, what? A couple hours?

I look over at him, and I see the worry etching his face. Before I can reassure him this is normal for those three, my phone starts to ring.

I don’t even have to look at it to know who it is.

I let my head fall back as I groan out, “Hello?”

“Deannnnnn!!!!”

Fuck. My. Life.

CHAPTER

Dean

I almost called Nyle to come get his wife, but I’d rather not give him a reason to be upset with Missy. Plus, he’s home with Skyye. While I know she’s almost sixteen, I don’t want her night disturbed or bothered with him bitching. I’ll go in, get them out, and leave.

I’ve done this more times than I care to count.

For a Sunday night, the Thirsty Pine is jam-packed. People are yelling, dancing, and drinking themselves stupid. The dance floor is full, the air stale with beer and the smell of sweat. Since Jasper has taken over, the Thirsty Pine has become the main hangout for everyone. It used to be just for the older drunks, but now, they have a mechanical bull, a live band three nights a week, and more than beer being served. It’s ladies’ night, I think, which Jasper has dubbed Holy Wine Night, and boy, are the ladies out. So many barely dressed women line dancing while men lust after them, and bottles of wine litter tables. This is a God-fearing town, but everyone is out to sin.

Or, better yet, they’re watching SI sin.

The moment the door slams behind me with Matt at my flank, I spot my sister standing on the bar top, pouring shots into a line of open mouths. Missy is laughing loudly as she tosses limes from behind where Sadie is pouring.

“For the love of God,” Matt mutters, but I can hardly hear him.

My heart slams against my ribs, vibrating my whole body as my eyes zero in on her.

Kenleigh Colburn.

Fucking hell, how am I so unbelievably floored by her every time I see her?

It’s not like I haven’t seen her since she left for college. She came home twice a year at first, but she stopped when the affair was discovered. Each time I saw her at Christmas or Skyye’s birthday, it was always surface-level small talk, and that was because her ex walked behind her like a shadow. Not that I thought something would happen if we were alone, but I wanted just a moment to make sure she was okay. To be on the receiving end of her signature megawatt smile that left me breathless. To get lost in the blue depths of her stunning eyes.

“Country Girl” by Luke Bryan blares through the speakers, and Kenni throws her hands up, her shirt riding up over her belly as she hoots out a yeehaw. Her face is flushed, her dark hair in a mess on top of her head, tendrils falling along her neck and jaw. Her eyes are bright, her mouth turned up in a sultry smirk, and I’m panting at the sight of her. Unlike our sisters, who are wearing boots, she’s wearing a pair of Keds, but that doesn’t stop her from dancing like she’s at a hoedown. Her thighs jiggle as she kicks her leg out then behind her, hitting her heel with her palm before laughing loudly at almost tripping. My lips quirk at the side at the pure joy on her face.
