Chapter 19

After spending the morning in naked as a blue jay time, Winnie had earned her first sticker on the chart today. Scythe hadn’t allowed her to wear the training panties today, since she hadn’t had an accident. Winnie hadn’t even thought about being nude until he announced he needed to dress her to go out to lunch. She’d had her blankie, Chippy, and her Daddy. What else could a Little girl need?

It turned out she needed a lot if she was riding on a motorcycle. Protected by the layers, Winnie had climbed onto her Daddy’s bike, and off they’d gone on an adventure. He’d stopped to introduce her to Hellcat, who manned the front gate today. Everyone looked fierce until they met her, then their faces softened.

She guessed all Daddies loved Little girls. To her surprise, she liked being claimed by Scythe. It wasn’t like the bikers would report her to the superintendent.

After a delicious hamburger and onion rings from the lunch menu at Inferno, Scythe had taken her on a tour. He’d even shown her where he worked in the warehouse. It was buzzing with activity on a Saturday afternoon.

“What do you do here?” she asked.

“Whatever Lucien decrees.”

“That’s cryptic. Are you good or bad guys?”

“We helped you out. What does that make us?” Scythe asked.

“Good guys.”

Scythe nodded but didn’t add anything else. Had he really answered her question? Winnie knew that she was naïve about a lot of real-life stuff. Lucien had helped her with the guns and had provided additional money to pay for them—more than Winnie had anticipated. Maybe in reality, lines weren’t simply drawn between good and bad.

Scythe interrupted her thoughts by stroking a powerful hand gently over her hair. “Do you have any more questions?”

Winnie studied his face for a minute. She trusted Scythe. Slowly, she shook her head. “No, Daddy.”

“Come on, Chipmunk. You have a visit with Razor this afternoon.”

“With Razor? Why?”

“He’s going to help us with birth control. He’s got an office set up in that building over there.” Scythe pointed to a building across the paved lanes to a window with a large red cross on a white background with the words ‘Medical Office’.”

“He works on Saturdays?”

“For us. Yes.”

“Okay. I’ll answer his questions fast so he can enjoy his weekend,” Winnie promised.

“There’s no rush, Winnie. How long has it been since you were at the doctor’s office?”

“Several months ago. I did a telehealth visit during the winter when I had a sinus infection.”

“When did you have a physical last?” Scythe asked, studying her closely as they walked.

“Sixish years ago? It was when I got hired to teach. I had to get a TB test and some immunizations to be in the classroom.”

“I don’t think Razor will find that acceptable. But no worries. He’ll take care of you from now on.”

“For birth control, right?”

“Yes. And anything else you need,” Scythe assured her as he opened the door.

Inside, she discovered a traditional waiting room at a doctor’s office, with chairs and tables with magazines. There was a small fridge with bottles of water and snacks on an island in the middle. Scythe escorted her over to the tablet set up on a stand.

“Go ahead and enter your name. Check that you have an appointment and the box by the L. When the space shows up, type in Scythe.” He spelled it for her.

She grinned at him. “I know how to spell, silly. I give lots of spelling tests.”

He winked at her. Damn, he’s handsome. How had she gotten so lucky to catch his eye? “Did you only notice me because I wore that fancy, almost-not-there dress?” she asked when the concerning thought popped into her mind.

“No. That stringy garment was hideous. I really paid attention to you when Caroline signaled to Wraith to let you in. I realized she’d picked up on something I had been too busy to notice. When I watched you that evening, I knew I’d been a fool to not have snatched you up immediately.”

“Oh!” The raw honesty in his voice convinced her he was telling the truth. “Hideous, huh?”

“Definitely. I brought something for you,” Scythe told her.

“You did? What?” Curiosity pushed away her nervousness.

Scythe opened the bag he’d pulled out of his saddlebags when he’d parked the bike. He held it open for her to look in.

“You packed my blanket?” Winnie reached in to grab the soft fabric and drew it out of his bag. She rubbed it on her cheek and held it to her chest. “Thanks. I’m kind of scared.”

“I know. Everything will be fine, Little girl.”

She nodded, holding the blanket tightly.

“Come on, Chipmunk Let’s sit down.”

“No need. I’m ready for Winnie. Come on back,” a deep voice instructed from a now open door.

“Hi, Razor. I’d like to introduce you to my Little girl, Winnie. Winnie, this is Razor. He’s got more degrees than anyone I’ve met, including an MD and PhD.”
