The only drawback is the fact that despite knowing about my men and their apartment in our building, he still insists on Tadgh being my shadow, like I can’t handle myself. I let it slide when Tadgh accidentally let it slip that Ronan lost someone he cared about in the past.
I tried to ask Ronan about it but he shut down each time. I let it go because, other than that topic, he’s been an open book. I know what it’s like not to want to pick at old wounds.
Tadgh isn’t so bad. He’s great at reading the room and minds his business for the most part. Ronan hasn’t mentioned any of my business before I share it, so I’m guessing Tadgh has kept his mouth shut.
Then there are nights like this. We’re on a romantic date. Things have been quiet, and Lyric is still fighting for his life. The doctors are hopeful.
I get why Ronan is so protective of me. The cameras were wiped in the areas around the accident before anyone’s team could get to them. While LaSalle was pissed and frustrated. It told us this wasn’t some random situation.
“This one is delicious,” Ronan whispers in my ear.
I nod and take another bite. We’re on this cute date in the city that’s like being on the show Chopped. The chefs are competing with the ingredients we’ve picked, and we get to judge the three courses they come up with.
I had heard about this place from my lawyer and mentioned it to my husband. I had no idea he would find it and book us for a date. When I looked it up, I found out it books fast and tabled trying to get in for another time when I was sure of Ronan’s schedule.
“Oh my God,” I whisper back after trying the next dish. “This one is divine too.”
“Aye, I wasn’t expecting it to be so flavorful. The rawny lad has chops.”
I snicker and nod. He just said that so fast, I’m surprised I followed. That’s been happening a lot. Lord, let this man get frustrated.
It’s so easy for me to get lost. When I know he’s upset, I try to listen more closely. It’s a work in progress.
Another chef is chopped, and we have time to talk and sip our wine. Ronan and I keep a light banter going and have a few laughs. My face hurts from smiling so much.
“Thank you, baby. I’m having so much fun,” I say.
“Yer welcome. Anything for my wife.”
I bite my lip as he glides his gaze over me. He stops at the deep V of my fitted shirt and his eyes linger. He’s been giving me heated looks all night.
I’m surprised we’ve made it to the second course. Although I’m questioning if we’ll make the final round. As if reading my thoughts, he reaches under the table and places his hand on my thigh.
Fingering the fabric of the split in my skirt, he then pushes his hand in to make contact with my bare flesh. I suck in a breath as his warm palm grasps my upper thigh. He gives a squeeze, then glides his palm up closer to the apex of my thighs.
Leaning into my ear, he whispers. “I’m about ready to leave. I have another surprise for ya at home. I want to eat my dessert off of ya, not a plate.”
It’s a good thing they’ve come over with dessert at that moment because I am about to get up and walk out. Did I mention how good my man looks tonight? His hair has grown out a bit, so it has a curl to it. His red locks are falling into his face.
The blue dress shirt he has rolled up to the elbows fits snug against his muscles and makes his eyes look mesmerizing. His black jeans are doing everything for his thighs and ass. The blue blazer is just icing on the cake. A cake I want to lick and suck all the frosting off of.
“I want to be fair to the chefs. Let’s hurry up and judge this round, then we can go,” I say.
“Fine,” he grumbles like a spoiled child.
I laugh and dig into the first dessert. It’s not doing anything for me. It actually has a weird, tangy flavor.
I push it aside and reach for the next one. This one is way better. The ingredients work together, unlike in the first dish.
“Rawny strikes again,” Ronan croons.
“Yes, he did,” I murmur. I then palm my forehead. “Oh, dear Lord. I can’t take it any longer.
“This dish was flavorful and palate pleasing. Unfortunately, the ingredients for the other dish got lost and didn’t come together as well for us.
“We chose this one. Oh God, my head is pounding. This migraine came on so suddenly. Honey, we have to go. I can’t sit here another minute,” I cry out dramatically.
