Getting out my phone, I pulled up the folder that had the drawings and handed it over to Emerson.

He flashed me a grin as he took it. “Very trusting.”

I scoffed, giving him a stern look that didn’t seem to scare him. “Behave.”

The brat shivered.

Roman was back to rolling his eyes, but Preston sighed again.

God, did he think the little flirt was worried?

He was such an idiot.

“Yes, Sir.” As he gave me a well-rehearsed pout, he focused on the image and I could see his mind take the idea and start to run with it.

Yes, there was the smart model I’d seen online.

His blog post was filled with flirting and ridiculousness, but in between naughty stories where he was always the innocent party, of course, he showed a remarkable aptitude for the career in general.

“You know, I saw a Japanese artist online who did something similar to this.” He looked up and the teasing fell away for a moment. “Who do you have doing the photography?”

He glanced over at Roman who shook his head before looking back at me. It was a good question. “I’m going to be taking a few of the shots, but I also have a friend in the business. Roman can give you a reference, but I think you’ll get along fine. He’s going to stick with the more mainstream ones.”

Emerson’s lips barely twitched, but he managed to hold back whatever naughty line had flashed through his mind.

Preston on the other hand was back to hovering over the conversation like a mother hen. “It’s the more…well, the more interesting ones that I want to make sure he’d be comfortable with. Emerson is very professional.”

Bullshit.

I’d read enough of his behind-the-scenes tales to get a good idea of what the scamp was like. He was professional, yes. I knew the photos would come out well, but I also knew he was a naughty little thing.

The way Roman was shaking his head said I’d read that correctly.

“It will be an intimate setting, you’re right.” I wasn’t going to hide any of the potential drawbacks from Emerson. “I’m sure Mr. Davis can appreciate that.”

I pointed back to the phone. “Please keep scrolling so you’ll see all the options I’m picturing.”

As he followed the directions, I could see the moment he got to the more erotic ones, but besides subtle shifts, he didn’t react and kept a neutral expression. Well, neutral for the little flirt. “There will be an intimacy in the setting that can’t be avoided, but I’m taking his comfort and security seriously.”

No matter what Preston seemed to think.

Roman’s narrow gaze was completely focused on Emerson as he ignored me and Preston. “How do you feel about the job?”

Emerson studied a few more of the images, making me both proud and frustrated. Waiting was painful, but I was glad he hadn’t dismissed anything out of hand.

As his gaze moved back to Roman’s and it looked like he was going to give a response, I jumped in. “I’d actually prefer to give him a few days to think about this before he answers.”

Emerson went very still and I couldn’t decide if the brat was going to pout or pull a Preston and sigh. “You do?”

Nodding, I ignored the way Preston sat straighter. “Yes, let’s say forty-eight hours so you can think about this. I’ll make sure Roman forwards you a link to the art so you can look over the concept in more detail. It’ll also give you a chance to look at my designs and get a feel for my work.”

And it would give him a chance to decide what he thought about me without an audience.

Not that I thought he’d mind one.

The naughty boy was very chatty on his blog and his views on being viewed were apparent.

Now I got the sigh and a pout.

I raised one eyebrow and settled back in the chair. He sucked in his lip and nodded. “Yes, Sir. Forty-eight hours and I’ll look at the information Roman sends.”

“Very good, Mr. Davis.”

Not good boy.

No, I was a professional…I was so professional, I didn’t even throw anything at Preston when he sighed again.

Chapter 3

Emerson

“Okay, I don’t know if I have a problem or not, but you’re going to help me fix it.” I was aiming to sit down sweetly and make sure everyone at the sleepover knew I hadn’t done anything interesting…but it didn’t really come out that way.

They were definitely going to think I was up to something, but this time it really wasn’t my fault. But the way Ian and Lane were looking at me said they wouldn’t believe it. Even Lane was staring at me with wide, eager eyes like he was ready for something dirty to fall out of my mouth.

Fuck.

I wasn’t sure how I’d gotten myself into this, but they were going to help me figure out what to do next. That was what friends were for.
