I do not like this man. I do not like him, Sam I am.

“Secondly?” he prompted, caressing my jaw.

“Secondly, I…”

I crashed my mouth over his, surrendering to want and need in a lusty, feverish haze.

My momentum knocked him off balance. He stumbled slightly and careened against the countertop, taking me with him.

“Fuck, you’re hot.” Ezra bit my bottom lip, angling his chin before shoving his tongue into my mouth.

We were voracious. I couldn’t get close enough to him. And darn it, I tried. I hooked my leg around his and lowered one of my hands, running my fingers along his pecs and ridges of muscled abs. When I reached the hem of his tee, I slipped my fingers underneath and splayed them over his warm skin. Ezra’s moan of appreciation made me bolder. I tweaked his nipple and sucked on his tongue.

He immediately went into caveman mode, tugging at my shirt and upping the intensity of his ravenous kisses. His hands roamed down my spine and dipped to cup my ass. I gave as good as I got, nibbling and sucking with abandon until breathing became an issue.

We resurfaced, panting for air and staring at each other in a daze before wordlessly heading for the stairs.

Ezra’s room was a decent-sized space with hardwood flooring and a wide window overlooking the backyard. The overall palette was a nondescript mash of blues and grays—generically masculine and hopelessly untidy. I wasn’t overly concerned about his unmade bed or the pile of clothes surrounding the wicker hamper next to his closet, though. I couldn’t see anything but Ezra.

My heartbeat was fast and erratic, and all of my senses were completely attuned to him. The sound of his footsteps, the click of the lock, and the swoosh of his shirt over his head. I licked my lips and met his gaze, willing myself not to drool. Gosh, he was magnificent and big and powerful. And he was on me again.

Gently now. Ezra moved with care, as if mindful of scaring me off. I couldn’t remember the last time anyone had touched me like this. With such reverence. He shouldn’t know that I loved it when he cradled my chin with one hand and rested the other on my hip.

And maybe he didn’t. Maybe I was a curious mystery tied to a newly discovered part of his sexuality that he couldn’t walk away from. I didn’t mind that idea at all. If my not-so-straight roommate wanted to use me for a gay scratching post, who was I to deny him? Or me.

So much for pesky ideals and self-preservation. I was in too deep now.

His deep, sexy groans sent full-body shivers through me, warming me from the inside out until I was burning up with desire. In spite of the heat, I wanted to be closer to him. I hooked my thumbs in his belt loops and rocked my pelvis against his and— Oh, my…wow!

I gasped for air and set my hand on his bare chest, covering part of a skull tattoo. I didn’t want to push him away, but I definitely needed to know what he was thinking.

“What do you want, Ezra?”

He didn’t hesitate. “You. I want you.”

I narrowed my eyes. “I’m afraid I’ll have to ask you to be specific. I don’t want to take a chance on any misunderstandings or—”

“I’m gonna be just fine, Holden. Don’t worry about me. I promise nothing will change between us.”

“You mean you’re still going to steal my yogurt?”

“Probably. I love that blueberry flavor you always buy.”

“I should buy strawberry.”

“Good call.” Ezra laughed, then picked me up and tossed me into the middle of a cloud of duvet. He kicked off his shoes as he unbuckled his belt and unbuttoned his shorts. “Take your clothes off, Shakespeare.”

I couldn’t move, let alone obey. Sure, Ezra stripping to his boxer briefs was hardly news. He did so often and didn’t care who witnessed. But this was different. It was personal and so was his obvious erection. One small tug and he’d pop out and yes…the thought alone would have brought me to my knees if I wasn’t already on my back.

Problem…it was much easier to banter about yogurt than to get naked for Ezra. I knew my limitations. I wasn’t buff, hunky, or physically gifted in any way. I was thin and lanky. I didn’t have cool tattoos or body piercings, and while I used Tommy’s hand weights more often than he did, my muscles were a fraction of the size of Ezra’s.

If we did this—and trust me, I wanted to—I’d have to move to another city tomorrow. Or get him to move. I’d never look at him the same again…and vice versa. This would change everything.

“Ezra…”

He cocked his head thoughtfully and moved to the bed, lying beside me with his head propped on his hands. He was so close, I could feel his body heat, but he didn’t touch me.
