“I’m riding that?” She points to the all-black sports bike. I’m not a giant fan of motorcycles, but they’re damn quick.
“Yes.” I remove the hairband from her wrist to gather her hair and secure her curls. It earns me an affectionate smile from my girl as I place the helmet on her head.
I swing my leg over the bike before assisting Ellie in getting on behind me. She wraps her small frame around me, making my dick hard.
I double-check the mics. “You hear me, babe?”
“Yeah,” Ellie responds.
“We’re a go.” Z’s voice fills my ear. I pull the bike around to the bay door on the opposite side of the warehouse that we had entered. Z follows me. I give him a nod before he hits the switch to make the bay door open. The second it’s high enough, we both gun it, shooting out the back.
Ellie lets out a small squeal, her hold tightening more on me. I click the device to open the gate that runs along the river. It’s only big enough to fit a bike or people walking through it. It’s my back exit out of here.
“Anything?” I ask Z.
“Yeah, drones are closing in, but they’re to the east. We should be clear.” Z confirms what I was expecting.
“Is it button time? Say it’s button time.” Cosima's voice filters through the line.
“Light it up, Princess,” Z tells her.
“Brace yourself,” I tell Ellie half a second before my sister hits the trigger.
The explosion is loud; a small shake rumbles out beneath us. “Oh my God!” Ellie turns her head to look back at the warehouse, now engulfed in flames. Cosima chucks the trigger as hard as she can right into the river. "Did you really blow that up?"
“Bad ass, right?” Cosima laughs.
“I ah, guess. Wowzer,” Ellie sounds perplexed and shocked. “ I guess that’s one way of redecorating.” She mutters, making Cosima giggle.
We Marinos have never been subtle. Soon enough my Ellie won’t be either.
Chapter Twenty-Six
ELLIE
“Then BOOM!” I make a giant explosion with my hands. Tova’s eyes widen, and she nods along. She was so excited when we pulled up. It made guilt prick at me, but it was also a reminder that the people around me care.
“I hit the button,” Cosima quickly adds. She’s never going to let us forget that part.
“I never get to blow anything up.” Tova lets out a huff, sitting down on the couch next to me. I’m not sure Tova really wants to blow anything up. I have played video games with her. It took three rounds in Rainbow Six before I could get her to stop saying sorry anytime she shot a person.
“Next time,” I tell her. I’m sure I can find something for her to blow up. If I don’t, I’m positive War will.
“I did get to see Z kill a person with an insulin pump. That was pretty cool.”
“Wait, was it one of those new ones?” I ask because they’d caught my attention too, but again, I’m suspicious of everything, and an auto pump that gives you meds all on its own is a no-go for me. The devices came out months back, and that had been my first thought. A person could fuck with it.
“I think? I don’t know.” Tova shrugs. “But you just drop dead.” She falls back on the couch, sticking her tongue out in demonstration. She’s definitely been hanging around Cosima. It’s rubbing off on her, and it’s a good thing.
“He pointed a gun at Z. He so had it coming.” Cosima shakes the black bottle of nail polish. I lay my hands out so she can paint my nails. "Lucky I didn't stab his punk ass," she mutters under her breath.
“This place is cooler in person.” We’re in the library, which is often where Cosima and Tova would hang out when I’d be chatting with them or playing games. I always wanted to be here in person, but I never thought that would happen. “Got those beauty and beast vibes.”
They might call this place the farm because of all of the land and random barns on it, but the main house reminds me of an estate. There are whole wings and shit. It’s a lot of house, but it’s been in the Marino family for generations.
“Right.” Tova sits back up. “But I’ve been banned from using the ladder.” There is one of those badass ladders with wheels that connects to a rail on the wall that you could guide around the room to get the books that are higher up, which is a good twenty feet, if not higher.
“I’m in full support of you not climbing on ladders, pregnant or not.” I adore Tova, but my best friend can trip over air and has a tendency to tumble out of things, like windows.
“I know,” Tova sighs. “When are you going to be pregnant?"
