He leans in, pressing a kiss to my head. “Yeah, we’re a fuckin’ thing.”

I squeal again.

He laughs.

Now, to deal with Carmen.

This should be fun.

RIGGS AND I SPEND A week or so enjoying every second together. If Carmen sees us put on a little act right away, she’ll know it’s a set up. If she sees us canoodling everywhere we can, and then it comes out of nowhere, she’s more likely to believe it. So, we make a point of being seen together, and it’s the best damned week of my life.

We kiss every-fucking-where.

He’s in my café—we’re kissing.

The garage—kissing.

Every chance we get, our hands are all over each other.

I go to the parties at the clubhouse, and Riggs spends nights in my bed. He takes me for rides on the back of his bike and, honestly, it feels like fucking heaven being with him. It’s like we’re living in wedded bliss, and it’ll all come crashing down soon once we’re back to reality.

I’m enjoying every second of it.

Even if it is partially for show.

It’s clear we’re both enjoying it.

“You two are making me want to vomit in my mouth,” Ramona says one afternoon at the café as she works her last shift.

“You’re just jealous because you don’t have a biker to fondle.” I grin at her.

She shoves her fingers in her mouth and makes a gagging sound.

I laugh.

“Seriously, though, I’m happy for the two of you. I never thought I’d see the day you two got it on, but here you are.”

“And get it on we do.” I wiggle my brows.

“Tell me more,” Doris says from her table next to the one we’re cleaning.

“Doris!” both Ramona and I say at the same time.

“Don’t be shy, dear. I’ve done it all. This one time, I met a stranger at a party and the two of us had sex for two weeks straight. Everywhere we could. At the end, I realized I didn’t even know his name. I still don’t.”

“Doris!” I cry. “You devil.”

She laughs, wiggling a finger. “I told you, you’re only young once.”

Ramona laughs. “I see my future in you, Doris.”

“Atta girl!”

I shake my head with a grin and get back to work. My mind on Riggs, always on Riggs. I think a lot about Carmen, too. I wonder if she is actually keeping an eye on us, or if she’s just up and left and we’re doing this for nothing.

Either way, I’m enjoying every damned second of it.

I finish up my shift for the day, close the café, and prepare for the night ahead. Tonight is the big night we’re going to have our public fight. I’m meant to go over to the garage, and then come running out a few minutes later. A friend of the club is going to rush out with Riggs. Of course she’s gorgeous, and to onlookers it’s going to look like I busted him with her. It’s the perfect plan really.

Here’s hoping Carmen is paying attention.

I imagine she is. Even if she doesn’t see the argument, word travels fast in a town like this, and it won’t take a lot of digging for her to figure it all out.

I get myself ready and saunter toward the garage with a big smile on my face. It’s late afternoon, but the sun is still out, albeit disappearing on the horizon. It’s a warm day, so I’m wearing a tank and a pair of cut offs. I wave to everyone working in the garage and then walk into the office where Riggs is sitting with Nayah. She’s a gorgeous African American girl, with the most spectacular brown skin, thick hair, and beautiful eyes. Not only that, but she’s the nicest girl I’ve ever met.

She’s a family friend, and Riggs has known her for a long time.

I only met her a few days ago, but I like her already.

“Hey.” I smile at the two of them.

“Hey,” Riggs murmurs, eyes going to my bare legs.

“Eyes up, cowboy,” I say in a sultry voice, and his eyes meet mine.

“You tryin’ to insult me.”

“Just getting you warmed up.”

Nayah laughs. “Are you two ready for this or what?”

“Are you sure Carmen isn’t going to be suspicious if you come out with Nayah?” I question.

“No,” Riggs answers, standing. “She was always jealous and convinced I was in love with Nayah, she’ll believe it in a second.”

I give Nayah a grin. “Well, let’s put on a show.”

“You first.” Nayah smiles, extending her hand toward the door.

I jump up and down on the spot, doing a few deep breaths and getting myself pumped. I need to look angry, hell, I need to look so damned angry everyone in the garage stops what they’re doing to watch me create a scene.

“Get out there.” Riggs chuckles, slapping my ass and hurrying me out the door.

I rush out quickly, slamming the door behind me as I go. I storm toward my café, fists clenched, face as angry as I can possibly make it. I think of all the bad things to ever happen in my life as I move, trying to make it as realistic as possible. Riggs calls my name a minute later, and I spin around as he and Nayah walk toward me.
