Uh-oh.

She unzipped the front pocket of her onesie and drew Freddy Fox out from his little pouch. Then, sliding a thumb into her mouth, she leaned against Brody’s chest and sucked on it.

“I suppose we should go to bed now,” Brody said.

But she didn’t want to go to sleep. She was worried about the Fox, and she knew Brody-bear was too. In the four months since the Fox declared that he was retiring, he’d rarely left the den without them.

And he wasn’t supposed to be taking on any jobs. But he’d gotten a lead on a guy who’d been a regular at the auctions. Someone who’d bought several women. And he hadn’t been able to resist doing a bit of research. Brody had even helped with some of that.

Still . . . while she understood he wouldn’t be around all the time, it was hard to wait at home when he could be in danger.

Brody rubbed his hand up and down her back. “He’s fine, Tutu. He texted to say he’d be coming home late.”

“I know,” she mumbled around the thumb in her mouth. Freddy Fox was held tight in her other hand. “He’s the Fox. He’s invincible. But sometimes, I worry.”

“Is that why you thought you’d toboggan down the stairs? Because you were worried?”

“And cause it’s a week out from Thanksgiving and there’s no snow! I want to toboggan on the snow, but where is it?”

“I don’t know if Papa will let you get on a toboggan again, Tutu,” Brody told her in a soft voice.

“I didn’t get hurt, Brody-bear,” she protested.

“But you could have,” he countered, running his hand over her hair. “Don’t you know how precious you are to us?”

“You’re precious to us, too.” She never wanted him to feel anything but completely wanted and desired.

She stared up at him, watching as his cheeks grew red.

“I know.”

“Do you know how much we love you?” She started tickling him.

“Uh-huh. No, stop!”

He started giggling as she moved her fingers over all his ticklish spots. He slid onto his back, wriggling around as she straddled his hips, working her magic.

“Tutu, no! Enough! I’ll pee my pants.”

She stopped, then put her hands on the floor on either side of his head. “I love you, Brody-bear.”

Reaching up, he drew her down toward him, kissing her gently. “I love you too, my Tutu. Beautiful girl.”

It was her turn to blush.

He sat up suddenly and clasped her face between his hands. “But you still deserve a spanking for what you just did.”

She pouted. “Do we have to tell Daddy? I mean . . . if we put the toboggan away, he never has to know.”

Brody just eyed her. “Really? You want to hide this from our assassin Daddy? He probably just got a chill on the back of his neck and is driving his Foxmobile here at full speed.”

She laughed. “He doesn’t have a Foxmobile.”

“That we know of. That man has so many vehicles, there could be one hidden back there.”

“Ooh, or we could get him one for Christmas. He’s impossible to buy for.”

“That would be hilarious. Except, he couldn’t really drive it anywhere. That would be advertising who he is.”

“Huh, true. What about a toy one? A special one, like those figurines you have but never play with. Which I still don’t get.”

“Because they’re worth money in the box.”

“So you plan on selling them one day?” she asked.

“Never! I’ll die with them. They’ll be buried with me.”

She stared at him in shock.

He gave her a sheepish look. “Well, you and the Fox too, of course.”

“We’re gonna need a massive coffin.” She shuddered. “Actually, let’s not talk about it. I don’t wanna die.”

Brody gathered her close, holding her tight. She sighed, letting him settle her. She always felt better with one of her men near. But it was even better with both of them close by, touching her.

“I don’t think Papa would let you toboggan, even if this hadn’t happened. At least not on your own.”

“Why not? I’m a fantastic tobogganer. I reckon I could have been in the Olympics, I’m that fast. Did you not see me hold on?”

“Oh yeah, you were holding on for dear life. I saw my life flash before my eyes. Please don’t do that again, Tutu. I don’t think my blood pressure can take it. Do I have any new gray hairs?”

“What are you talking about?” she asked, trying to tame his wild hair with her fingers. “You never had any gray hairs.”

“Sure I did. I got them after you dyed my hair blue.”

“I told you, there must have been some fault in the dye. I followed the instructions exactly. Besides, I thought you looked cute with blue hair.”

“I looked like a giant Smurf.”

“Do Smurfs have blue hair? If your skin was blue, then you’d be a Smurf.”

“My skin was blue! My face went blue from the dye.”
