Bright had been surprised but intrigued. He could tell she couldn’t see—how did she know the two of them were there in the street in the first place?
Burn, who was naturally more suspicious than Bright was, had scowled.
“What kind of trick is this?” he growled.
But the old Seer only shook her head.
“No trick. I know the two of you are loners—twinless in a world where every other male has a twin. And I know you wish to be bound together by a bond stronger than friendship.”
Her words had rocked Bright to his core.
“How…how could you possibly know that?” he’d asked, feeling all the blood drain from his face.
“It’s some kind of trick,” Burn had insisted. “Or somebody told her about us. Come on—let’s go.”
“No—not until we hear what she has to say,” Bright told him. “Please, old Mother—what words of wisdom do you have for us?” he’d asked.
“Hear the words of the Goddess—and obey,” she said. Then her eyes, which had been milky white up until then, suddenly turned green—both the whites and the irises, Bright saw, as he stared at her in fascination—and she began to prophesy.
“Two who wish to live as one
Must find their center,
Find their sun
When at last they find their third
A bond will form
In soul and word.
Pleasure bright will show the way.
When they come,
Then let them stay.”
Her words didn’t make sense to Bright at first and he could tell that Burn didn’t quite get it either.
“Please, old Mother—find our third? What do you mean?” he asked her.
“I mean you must find the woman who brings the two of you together—only by her touch may you bind yourselves and form the Twin-Bond both of you crave.”
Bright’s heart had started pounding.
“You mean it’s possible to form a bond even though the two of us are just friends—not even brothers?” he asked.
She nodded and he saw that her eyes were still green-on-green.
“You’ll know her when you find her—the three of you will feel pleasure when you touch her both at once. When that happens, you’ll know she’s the one.”
“What must we do when that happens?” Bright asked.
“Bring her here to me—Mother Reeva, they call me,” the old Seer told him. “I’ll be able to tell you what to do next—but I must touch her first to know what the Goddess wills.”
“We’ll do it,” Bright promised her—and he’d meant it.
He had a strong belief in fate and destiny—he’d known the first minute he met Burn that the two of them ought to have been twins. As different as the two males were, Burn felt like a brother—the two of them just “clicked” as the humans said.
They’d even talked about trying to find a woman who was willing to let them share her—but the only time they’d tried, it had been unsuccessful. Mainly because when a Twin Kindred touched a woman alone, without his twin, he often received a low-level shock which was painful and not pleasurable at all.
When Bright and Burn had found a female who said she’d let them share her, as Twin Kindred did, that painful shock was still present, even when he and Burn were both touching her at once.
To finally find the woman who gave them pleasure when they touched her instead of pain felt like a revelation to Bright. He’d had a feeling that Noelle was the one. The minute he’d seen the beautiful mature Elite, he’d felt drawn to her. And Burn was drawn to her as well, though he didn’t like to admit it. Still, when Bright had suggested that the two of them sign up for her class on Earth holidays, he hadn’t protested. And when Bright had stayed after class to ask questions and get to know their lovely human teacher better, he’d stayed behind as well, though he let Bright do most of the speaking.
Noelle is the one—she has to be! Bright thought, as he watched Burn lay her carefully on the couch in the suite he and Burn shared.
They’d been best friends back on Twin Moons. Once they moved to the Mother Ship, they’d become roommates as well. But sleeping in the same big bed still somehow felt empty, even with the two of them in it, because there was no woman to hold between them.
Maybe there would be one to share soon—if only Noelle would agree to come with them to see Mother Reeva on Therim Five. If she did, they could hopefully find a way to form the elusive Twin-Bond he was certain the two of them were meant to have.
He just hoped she wasn’t too “freaked out” as the humans said, about the spontaneous orgasm the three of them had shared when they kissed her on the cheeks.

NOELLE
Noelle swam back to consciousness feeling like something very odd had happened to her. She’d had the strangest dream…all about how Bright and Burn had volunteered to stay after her last holiday class and help decorate the room for the Christmas party she was planning to throw for her students before she had to leave the Mother Ship.
