This was a new life—a new start. She’d spent years living in fear—it was time to seize all the joy she could and hold onto it. She was flying into the unknown with two warriors who respected her, who made her feel needed, and who needed her in return to help them form a Twin-Bond. Everything was looking up.

“Here we go,” Burn said.

The ship surged forward.

And together, the three of them dove into the crimson wound in space… and left the whole world behind.

BURN

Folding space was different for everyone.

Some Kindred said time slowed down to a crawl—as though every second stretched into a long, shimmering thread you could pluck and twang like a Seribeth harp string.

Others swore time sped up, rushing forward like a river in flood, dragging you with it, breathless and helpless.

Still others claimed folding space felt like no time was passing at all… and at the same time like years, decades, entire eons were spinning past, brushing against your skin like ghostly fingers.

Burn didn’t know what was true for most people. He only knew what it felt like for him—for him, folding space slowed time.

As the long-range shuttle slid into the bleeding crimson slit in the fabric of the universe, Burn felt the world crystallize around him. Everything sharpened… everything came into focus. The roar of the engines became a low hum, and the sensation of plunging into the Fold became a weightless drift, as though they were suspended in warm, dark water.

He turned his head — slowly, so slowly — to look at his companions.

Noelle sat in the center seat, strapped securely between him and Bright. The soft glow from the navigation panel bathed her in faint gold light, highlighting her profile…the curve of her cheek…the long sweep of her eyelashes as she stared wide-eyed at the swirling red void outside the cockpit window.

Her hair was loose today, spilling over her shoulders in thick, glossy waves. He could smell it from here — warm vanilla and wildflowers. Her full lips were parted just a little, breath catching as the sky outside fractured into shimmering crimson shards.

Fuck, she’s so beautiful.

She was tiny too — most human women were compared to the Kindred — but despite her diminutive size, her full curves made something primal inside him sit up and take notice. His gaze slid downward, tracing the shape of her body strapped in the five-point harness.

Her breasts strained against the top of her red dress — perfect, heavy, ripe handfuls he longed to taste. Her waist dipped in gently before flaring out to wide, lush hips. And her thighs…

Gods.

Her skirt had slipped up a little during takeoff, molding itself to her luscious, thick thighs like a second skin. The thin fabric clung to every curve, outlining the softness Burn wanted to bite…kiss…mark. He imagined grabbing her hips and pulling her into his lap. He imagined sinking to his knees between her legs and burying his face in the hot, slick heat of her soft little pussy.

I want her wrapped around my head. Want her thighs squeezing me while she rides my mouth, tasting like fucking heaven.

He adjusted his grip on the steering yoke and wished he could adjust his cock in his leathers instead. He was getting hard just thinking of tasting the curvy, mature Elite.

Burn frowned. This wasn’t helpful—this wasn’t the mission. They were taking Noelle to Therim Five because Bright believed in some stupid prophecy, not because Burn wanted to bend Noelle over the nearest surface and lick her until she screamed his name.

His gaze slid to Bright.

The Light Twin was looking at Noelle too — but with hope in his eyes. Bright had always been the hopeful one between them. Always the believer…always the one who could find a silver lining in the darkest storm. Bright still believed that miracles could happen—and would if they hoped and prayed hard enough.

Burn wished he still had that. He wished the universe hadn’t beaten it out of him.

You prayed for a miracle once, he reminded himself. When your parents and your twin were abducted. When they were—

No.

No point going there. No point digging up bad memories.

He tore his gaze away from Bright’s earnest expression and focused on the controls again. Bright believed this mission would work — believed that Noelle was the “third” the Seer had spoken of—the one who could bind the two of them together.

Burn doubted it. He didn’t believe in miracles. Not anymore.

Well, the worst thing that could happen was failure, he told himself. The old Seer was probably a fraud. There was no way she could forge a bond between two males who weren’t related. You were either born with a Twin-Bond or you weren’t—simple as that. There was no other way.

But at least they’d get a trip with Noelle out of it. At least they’d get to be close to her. Maybe they’d even get to sleep with her between them, just for one night. Just once, before she had to go back to Earth. Maybe she’d even let them share her a little. Since they were able to touch her without the low-level shocking pain all Twin Kindred experienced when they touched a woman without their twin, it should be possible.
