Gray wouldn’t know what it was from, even if he noticed it.

But he was like a bloodhound, sensing bad things anywhere.

I didn’t want him looking at it any longer than necessary.

“Luke is a good guy. All there is to it. Now will you quit fuckin’ looking at the pictures?”

He put his hands up. “Damn, Peach, no need to be an asshole about it.”

“You’ve been an asshole all night.”

Finally he glanced up at me instead of at the picture. Mission accomplished.

“How have I been an asshole?”

“Telling me you wouldn’t fuck me if I was the last man on Earth, and shit.”

He cracked a smile, and I felt like I’d won a little prize.

“Those certainly weren’t the words I used.”

“So?”

His eyes were electric blue, glimmering up at me.

God fucking damn, I wanted to dip to kiss that smug look off his face.

“Accuracy is important to me. I’m a journalist, after all.”

“Is that what you want to do, after you graduate? Can’t be much money in newspaper work these days.”

“No. I’m going to be a criminal lawyer,” he said.

“Wow.”

For a person with a supposedly shitty past, he definitely had ambition.

“I’m double majoring. Investigative journalism and criminal justice. All just preparation for law school.”

“I can’t imagine the workload.”

“I stay busy. That’s why I don’t date anyone at TNU.”

I lifted an eyebrow at him. “Excuse me?”

“I said what I meant. I don’t date anyone from TNU.”

“Why the fuck not?”

“It would just be an unnecessary use of my attention.”

“Give me a break. Everyone needs to fuck.”

“I can fuck whoever I want,” Gray said, running his fingertips along the surface of my desk. “But I’m too focused on my studies to date. It’s a hard rule for me.”

My gut reaction was the same as always.

That’s a dumb rule, you cocky ass motherfucker.

But he did also have a point.

If I’d avoided secretly dating Danny Ennick this summer, I would have saved myself a lot of distraction.

Saved myself a whole world of trouble, too.

The only reason I had one dark secret now was because I let myself get involved with Coach’s son, knowing that it was a bad idea.

I breathed deep, my heart rate finally settling a little now that Gray was looking over at Snugbug instead of the pictures.

“I’m awful with school. I’m taking a class on the Roman Empire this semester,” I told him. “I can already feel the F heading my way.”

He shook his head. “The Roman Empire is fucking incredible history. You could get an A based on interest alone.”

“You don’t know how bad I am with classes. I promise, I could manage to get an F in a class even if the subject was football.”

“I’ll help you study. If you can focus, that is.”

“Just told you I don’t know how.”

His gaze flicked up to meet mine. “If I teach you about the Roman Empire will you be hard half the time?”

I knew he was just teasing me because I’d admitted too much while we were in the bar.

But just the suggestion actually gave me a half-chub again now, too.

I was too needy for my own good.

I used to only lust for guys I actually liked, but the more popularity I got in the football world, the more I felt like I could do anything.

Including hooking up with people who were…

A challenge.

Like my cock craved places it knew it shouldn’t go.

Inside Gray Gilman.

“I’ll quit trying,” I told him, attempting to convince both of us. “I know I’m not your type.”

He lifted an eyebrow. “Never said you weren’t my type.”

I paused. “What do you mean?”

“I have eyes. I’m pretty sure anyone who’s capable of being attracted to men and has eyes would say it, too. Of course you’re my type.”

“What type is that?”

His gaze smoldered. “Ego bigger than the fucking moon, for starters.”

“Guess that’s something we have in common.”

Something crackled between us.

“A mouth I want to stuff quiet,” he said in a low tone.

“Funny. I could say the same to you.”

He nodded forward, looking down.

“A hard cock,” he said.

I glanced downward and saw that my hard-on was completely visible now through my shorts.

“I respect that you don’t want to hook up with me, Gray, but I can’t exactly control how my dick responds to your presence.”

His gaze was like a sword, pinning me right in place.

“You couldn’t handle me.”

Like hell I couldn’t.

“Just like you can’t handle seeing another guy’s arm around me,” I said, cocking my head to one side. “Luke’s just my friend, you know. You barely know me, but you’re all jealous?”

He suddenly took a step in closer to me.

I could recognize when a guy was ready to fight. I wasn’t exactly the type to get into scuffles out on the field, but I’d prevented quite a few from escalating.

He was checking me.

“Call me that again,” Gray said in a low, even tone, his gaze firmly fixed on mine.
