“Ignore him. I do,” she whispers as she grabs my hand and tugs me into the living room. Cage follows behind us with our bags, and Zeke gets the door, closing it, and engaging the lock. She shows us to the guest bedroom and plops down on the bed.

“I was thinking after the game we can go to one of the house parties they have on campus? They’re always looking for something to celebrate.”

“Let’s do it. I know Murphy has been begging us to go out to a couple parties with him.” Cage smiles and wraps his mammoth arm around me. Just because he isn’t playing football anymore doesn’t mean he stopped eating a religious diet and working out.

The guy is still a brick house, and his smile still makes me weak in the knees.

Since we have two hours until the game, and Mia lives close to campus, we have dinner and get ready. Mia is wearing her Blackthorn Elite T-shirt, while Cage and I are rocking North Woods.

During the game, Cage tells me all the positions and is my personal commentator. Even though he doesn’t play anymore, he does enjoy watching it, and whenever we get the chance, we go to Murphy’s game.

“Is Murphy in a relationship?” Mia asks as the game comes to an end, and we get up from our seats in the stands.

Cage snorts. “Yeah, with himself.”

Mia gives me a questioning look. “He’s not lying. I think Murphy is in love with himself. I could never see him settling down with anyone.”

“Didn’t your hunk say the same thing?” Mia questions and Cage’s features turn serious.

“When you know, you know. Love blindsided me. I wasn’t expecting to fall for the girl responsible for tutoring me. In my defense, she had me by the balls the moment she told me I never stood a chance.”

Mia and I both snicker as we head down the steps. Never in a million years did I think I would find someone, let alone that someone would be Cage Wilder. We’ve both become better people and branched out to do the things we want to do because of encouragement from each other.

Now we’re living our best lives.

After the game, Murphy and Mia talk us into going to a party with the rest of the team. I reluctantly agree, not having the best track record with parties.

Once we get there, I realize how much different this is. There is no awkwardness, I actually feel like I fit in now.

I sit on Cage’s lap, his large arms wrapped around me as I sip on some fruity drink.

“Wanna go dance?” Mia asks out of the blue.

“No,” a deep voice answers for me. At first, I think it is Cage, but I quickly realize it’s Mia’s six foot four bodyguard standing behind us. “No dancing.”

Mia rolls her eyes at me. “Why did you even let me come here if I can’t have any fun? You know I’m not a child, right?”

Zeke doesn’t answer in words, but the glare he gives Mia makes it very clear what he is thinking. He is about to throw her over his shoulder and carry her out of her kicking and screaming.

“It’s fine, Mia. I didn’t want to dance anyway. Let’s just watch the drunk people do keg stands.”

“I guess,” she pouts, crossing her arms in front of her chest.

“You okay?” I lean into Mia so only she can hear me.

“Yes, it’s just…” She looks over her shoulder like she is making sure Zeke can’t hear her from here. “Zeke said something weird to me earlier. He said, soon you will be twenty anyway, and then everything will change.”

“What is that supposed to mean?”

“I don’t know. But I have a bad feeling about it.”

Mia and I have been best friends for a very long time, in many ways, she is the opposite of me. Normally, I’m the anxious one while she is brave, scared of nothing, and no one. So when I see the fear in her eyes now, I know something is terribly wrong.

Something bad is going to happen to Mia.
