“You think you can marry my brother after being unfaithful? We were making out only a few weeks ago! There’s no way I’m going to let this happen. My brother is a good person and deserves way better than you.”

“Unfortunately, it’s not your decision to make. Alec already said yes to the proposal. Which is why I’m currently getting champagne to toast.” He picked up two bottles of prosecco, and I quickly snatched them from his grip.

“There’s not going to be a toast!”

“Yes”—he snatched the bottles back—“there is.”

I yanked the bottles of champagne back. “No, there’s not. I can’t believe you were dating my brother and me simultaneously. That’s disgusting.”

My brother and I kissed the same pair of lips.

We almost jingle-jangled the same set of balls.

We almost ho-ho-hoed the same cheap toy.

Christ.

My therapist would have a field day with my next few sessions.

MJ shrugged his shoulders. “Well, if it makes you feel better, I’m not screwing you.”

“That doesn’t make me feel better at all.”

“Regardless, we are going to be related soon enough, so you might as well get used to having me in your life, sis. Maybe if you’re lucky, we’ll revisit our history in your bedroom when everyone else is busy.” He winked.

I cringed. “You’re a pig.”

“Thankfully, your brother loves pork. Now, if you excuse me”—he took the bottles from me—“I have a toast to do.”

I yanked the bottles back into my hands. “There won’t be a toast after I go in there and tell Alec everything and—"

“I already did.”

I froze in place.

MJ grabbed the bottles back from me with a wicked smirk.

I shook my head, bewildered. “What?”

“The moment I saw the photographs of you, I told him that you and I had a short-lived, uneventful few dates. I told him you meant nothing to me, which is the truth. You meant nothing to me, Holly.”

That felt like a punch to my spirit.

It would’ve probably hurt if it wasn’t from a lying piece of scum.

“I don’t believe you. You’re just trying to get me not to tell Alec the truth. Alec would never be okay with his boyfriend—”

“—Fiancé—”

“—he would never be okay with his dirtbag boyfriend cheating on him,” I finished. “He has too much self-respect ever to allow that.”

MJ tossed his hands up in surrender. “Ask him yourself. See if I care.”

“Fine. I will. Alec!” I shouted, feeling my heart pounding inside my chest. “Alec!”

Seconds later, Alec entered the room with a raised eyebrow. “Why are you screaming like a mad woman?” he asked.

I gestured toward MJ. “We dated a few weeks ago. For, like, six weeks.”

“Yeah, I know.”

My jaw dropped. “What do you mean you know?!” I marched to stand beside MJ and gestured back and forth between the two of us. “We dated. MJ and me. We dated each other.”

“Yeah,” Alec repeated, “I know. He told me today once we arrived, and he realized it.”

“Okay…so why is he still here?”

“Because he’s my fiancé?” Alex asked, confused by me being baffled.

I was confused by his confusion! “He cheated on you, Alec! With me! Your sister!”

“I didn’t cheat,” MJ explained. “We were in a non-exclusive relationship. We aren’t anymore since we’ve made things official, though.”

A non-exclusive relationship? Alec would never do that. I knew my brother. That wasn’t something he was into.

“But—”

“No buts, Holly. It is what it is. Just don’t tell Mom and Dad. I doubt they’d understand. They’re from a different generation,” Alex explained.

My mouth was agape. I didn’t understand and was only a few years older than my brother. “Alec…”

“We’re drinking champagne in the dining room in two minutes to toast to MJ’s and my engagement, Holly. You can join us or not. Either way, we’re celebrating this. And also, maybe leave the judgment at the door, seeing how you were seeing Kai at the same time you saw MJ based on the timeline you told me.”

MJ took the bottles of champagne from me and gave me a sinful smile as he and Alec headed into the dining room for the toast.

I felt like a complete fool standing there. Why was Alec acting as if he was okay with the situation? He had to be more upset than he was letting on.

Not long after, Kai entered the kitchen and raised an eyebrow.

“Do I want to know what happened?” he asked.

“Probably not, but there is something I need you to help me with.”

His brows lowered. “Why does that statement worry me?”

“Because you’re slowly learning how insane I am?”

“If by slowly you mean quickly, then yes. What is it?”

“Matth—MJ—is a lying piece of scum.”

“Yes, we’ve come to terms with that. Not to say I told you so, but—”

I pointed a stern finger at him. “Don’t say I told you so.”

He tossed his hands up in defeat. “All right, all right.”

“We need to expose his lies.”

“Define we.” He chuckled and shook his head. “I want no part in this.”
