“He might want to eat more than dinner, girl.”

I laughed, because my outraged comments only fueled her to push my buttons even more. Marlowe had brought much needed levity into my life.

“You could be a little coy,” she suggested. “Don’t give him the P. Maybe just some oral or anal.”

I busted out laughing at that. “Oral and anal is coy now? Good to know.”

“When you’re a virgin, it is.”

“I feel weird about oral and downright indignant about anal,” I said. “I don’t think I’d enjoy either.”

“Oh, oral is spectacular, as long as you’re with a guy who knows what he’s doing. Have I ever told you about the guy who tried to get me off by licking the wrong end of my hoo-hah? The end by my butthole. I gently moved his head and positioned his head over my clit—this was a grown man, by the way; we weren’t teenagers—and he goes ‘what are you doing’ and I’m like, ‘that’s my clit,’ and he goes, ‘No it’s not.’ He was all condescending, like I didn’t know where my own fucking clitoris was. He said it was inside me and he knew just the spot.”

“Have you ever had good sex?” I asked her, shaking my head.

“Yes, but the bad is more memorable. I’m pretty sure Beau will know what he’s doing.”

“Well, it doesn’t matter because it’s just dinner.”

“Keep telling yourself that, sweetie. But you still need to go to a salon and get your lady junk groomed, because I’m guessing you’re past being able to reach it by now.”

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Shelby

“Hey,” Beau said, smiling at me when I opened by door. “You look great.”

My hair was a little longer and my belly was a lot bigger than when he’d seen me last. He was clean shaven, wearing a polo shirt and jeans. As always, it was his eyes that drew me in. My heart raced as I fought the desire to throw myself at him.

“Thanks,” I said. “You do too.”

His gaze landed on my bump, which was looking more like a mountain every day. “How’s the baby?”

“Everything’s good. I didn’t find out the sex, but I’m dying to know. It’s a healthy baby so far, though, so that’s the most important thing.”

“Good.” His eyes radiated warmth when they met mine again. “Ready to go?”

I nodded, even though emotionally I was all over the map. I’d planned to be friendly, but not let him affect me. I wanted us to set things right between us, but I didn’t want my body to be throwing an inner parade upon seeing him again. It was, though. I wanted to be over it in terms of our attraction, but clearly, I wasn’t.

I grabbed my bag and locked up, and we walked out to his car together.

“Your arms look bigger,” I said.

“Yeah?” He grinned at me and flexed. “My trainer has had me working more on arms.”

“Hey, guys!” Marlowe approached us, feigning surprise. “You must be Beau. I’m Shelby’s friend Marlowe.”

She was terrible at this. I wished I would have just let her hide in my apartment since we left a few seconds after Beau arrived.

“Marlowe, I’ve heard a lot about you,” he said as she went in for a quick hug.

“Same. It’s good to finally meet you.”

“We’re going out for dinner,” I said. “Where are you off to?”

“Oh, Target run,” she said, waving a hand. “Need me to pick anything up for you?”

“I think I’m good.”

“Spicy Doritos?”

I hesitated. I’d had some Doritos over at Marlowe’s a couple of months ago and now I was addicted. Since they weren’t good for the baby, I didn’t buy them for myself, but she kept a steady supply in her apartment for me. I called her my Doritos dealer.

“No, that’s okay,” I said.

“I’ll get some for my place,” she said, winking.

“Hey, I’ll take some, too,” Beau said with a grin. “I love Doritos.”

“We have to go,” I said. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow, Marlowe.”

“Text me anytime.”

I cringed inwardly. Though I loved her, I didn’t want Beau to know my best friend was waiting with bated breath for updates about our evening. It was just dinner.

Beau opened the passenger side door for me like no time had passed. I paused as I was about to get inside, too swayed by the intensity of his blue-eyed gaze to look away.

He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close into a hug. I went stiff for one surprised second, but then I relaxed against him.

“I really missed you,” he said, his warm breath dancing on my skin.

“Me too.”

He pulled back and looked into my eyes, a small smile playing on his lips. “I’ve got things I want to say to you, but not in a parking lot. I’ll wait until we get to the restaurant.”

I nodded and stepped into the car, my mouth suddenly dry. Even though I was wearing black maternity pants with an elastic waistband and a top that tied beneath my breasts and had flowy fabric billowing over my very pregnant stomach, Beau still looked at me the same way he had on Christmas. There was still affection and I was pretty sure…desire.
