“Maybe it wouldn’t have to be just for a friend,” he said with a tremble in his voice. “Would you come with me as my boyfriend, Blue?”

I pulled in a sharp breath. “Don’t say that unless you mean that, Tris, because you will break my heart—”

“I mean it more than anything,” he said. “I want to be your boyfriend. Hell, I’d want to be more. I know I’d love being more.”

My head was spinning like a top again, but this time it was charged with white-hot disbelief and excitement instead of murky uncertainty.

“My boyfriend?” I asked. I felt like I was floating somewhere above my body.

Tris just let out a feeble laugh, shaking his head as he looked up at the stars and then back to me. “You act like it’s something so impossible,” he said. “For me, it feels like something we were destined for all along.”

The frenzy that had been building inside of me was finally let loose. Like hundreds of wild animals finally set free from their cages, I felt like what I’d been holding back all night—what I’d been holding back for years—had finally escaped for good.

“Yeah, Tris,” I told him, my voice a broken whisper. “You fucking asshole. I’d be your boyfriend.”

He let out a huge sigh, a smile started to play at his lips. “Well then quit fuckin’ around and accept that we belong to each other, already, okay? Because I—”

I leaned in and crushed my lips to his. I couldn’t wait another moment. I knew what I was risking, and I knew that I’d never forget it. I could be hurt. I probably would be. But there was nobody I’d rather take a risk for than this man right in front of me. The man that had changed my life as much as I’d changed his.

I was going to be scared shitless. I already was.

And I was going to be closing a chapter of mourning my father’s loss, but my love for him would never disappear. There was no chance in hell I was going to sell his home, my childhood home to a random stranger. But I’d find another way. Somehow.

But I was also beginning to realize that my life needed a big change. A shock to the system. Something truly new, in the same way that everything with Tristan felt new. Most of the good memories I had in Kansas had something to do with Tris, in some way or another. Was it so crazy to think that anywhere with him could be home?

“You know what?” I said, my voice breaking just a little as I spoke in between kissing him. “I think I would let you take me out on a second date.”

Tris laughed. “Oh yeah? You think you might be able to tolerate another?”

“I think I could do this for the rest of my life.”

“Please. Yes.”

I pulled in a long breath of air, looking out toward the stars then back to him. “Oh, God. I am going to regret this, aren’t I?”

Tristan leaned in, catching my lower lip between his teeth for a moment, then softly kissing me. “What you don’t seem to realize is that it’s only going to get better,” he said, his voice low. “We’re only going to have more new adventures. I’m only going to get to know you better, get to know your body better, learn exactly what makes you come, and then figure out how to make you come harder—”

I groaned as he clutched me against him and the two of us fell backward onto the pillows, losing ourselves in each other.

“Whatever cologne you put on,” I murmured against the soft skin near his collarbone, “is driving me crazy.”

“In a good way?”

“The best way.”

“Good,” he breathed. “Because you’re going home smelling like me tonight.”

“I’m not going home without you.”

He moaned, a gorgeous fucking sound that made my cock jump. “I was hoping you’d say that.”

TRISTAN

On the drive back home, it felt as if Blue had finally, mercifully given himself permission to do exactly what he’d always wanted to do with me. As I drove back, he let his hand wander over to my thigh, my groin, and my cock, stroking me through the fabric of my pants. By the time we made it back to his house, I was hard as hell and practically ready to drop to my knees and beg him for more.

And the moment we stepped inside and the front door was shut, I was tired of waiting. I kicked off my shoes and stripped off every piece of clothing I was wearing as Blue grabbed us both drinks in the kitchen.

“Oh,” he said, his eyes widening as he returned, two cold beer bottles in hand, looking me up and down. “This really is the best date I’ve ever had.”

He put our beers down on the living room table.
