Then it was just the two of them and despite what they’d done together in the locker room, the very dirty, filthy and erotic fucking they’d done, Mary suddenly felt really shy.

Alex reached out and Mary stiffened at the feel of his fingers brushing against her cheek as he tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear that had fallen from her ponytail.

“I’m not about to let you go.” His words were low and deep… and so serious. Her heart raced, her body softened, and she looked into his eyes and smiled. “God, you’re beautiful.” His hand now curled around the side of her throat and her breath caught.

He leaned in slowly and she held her breath once again, her eyelids fluttering and threatening to close completely when she felt his lips skimming the shell of her ear.

“And what we did in the locker room,” he growled and pressed his hard body against hers, so firmly she felt the stiff outline of his cock. God, he was hard again. “I want that with you again and again, Mary.” He groaned and ran his tongue along her pulse point. “I could take you right up against this brick building and it wouldn’t be enough. I’d be hard as soon as I came.”

A slow breath left her and when he pulled away, she blinked her eyes open, not realizing they’d closed. “I’d let you.” The words were out of her before she could stop them.

“Oh, Mary,” he groaned. “I know, baby, and it makes me want you more.” He held her for long seconds and she let him, God did she let him. It felt too good to pull away. But when he did and cupped her cheeks, tipping her head back and looking down into her face, she wanted nothing more than for him to kiss her until she was breathless.

“Let me take you out.” He leaned down and skimmed his lips along hers, not really adding pressure, but lighting her up all the same. “Let me show you off, make all the other assholes jealous because they’ll now you’re mine.”

His now.

“Mine, Mary,” he murmured against her lips. “You know that, right?”

Her heart was in her throat, her pulse so loud in her ears it drowned out everything else.

“Whether you know it or not,” he said before she could have answered, his lips still barely pressed to hers. “You are mine and I’ll just have to work really damn hard to prove it.” He kissed her deep and thoroughly, and then pulled back, a serious expression on his face. “Because no fucking way I’m letting you go.”

Alex sat across from Mary at The Refectory, a restaurant that specialized in American and French cuisine. And he felt out of fucking place, like he was an imposter. She was too good for him, just like this place. But he’d wanted to take her some place nice. He’d wanted to make a good impression, to show her he wasn’t trash.

Fuck, I’m an idiot.

He tugged at his oxford, the collar tight as hell, the Brooks Brothers slacks feeling stiff, his thighs too muscular or the pants too damn small. Or hell, maybe it was the fact he sported a raging hard-on at the sight of Mary sitting across from him looking so damn beautiful it had his throat closing up.

Mary leaned forward and glanced around, her voice lowered as she said, “This place is amazing, but I feel so out of place, even with the stuffy ass parents I have.” She smiled and he couldn’t help but return the gesture. He knew he was probably looking awkward as hell and she said that for his benefit. God, he was falling hard for this girl.

She straightened and lifted her wine glass, taking a sip of the deep red liquid as she watched him over the rim.

He looked at the high ceiling with the thick wooden beams, then glanced at the brick walls that surrounded them. “I’m glad I’m here with you, Mary,” he said instead of putting his foot in his mouth. Fuck, he felt nervous, not an emotion he normally felt.

“Yeah, me too.” Her smile was sweet… pretty. “And the food was incredible.” She glanced down at her wine glass and ran her finger over the rim. “I wasn’t sure how a first date with you would be like.” She glanced up, her cheeks pink. “Sorry if that sounds bad.”

Hell, he couldn’t blame her. He hadn’t known how it would be with him either.

“No offense—”

He shook his head and smiled, leaning forward and placing his hand over hers. Even though he’d fucked her already—God had he fucked her so good and hard—touching her innocently like this felt like a pretty big move. “Truth is I’ve never done this.” He lifted his free hand and gestured it between them. “Sounds bad, I know. But going on dates, connecting with someone emotionally?” He shook his head. “Not something I’m used to and I’m sure to fuck up. So the fact you enjoyed yourself…” He cleared his throat but didn’t remove his hand from hers. “Yeah, makes me feel like I’m not screwing things up, Mary.”
