“And people donate….”

“It’s press.” I shrug. “My face has become recognizable from courting the tabloids in a way it never would if I let the shine from my football career fade.”

“So you…,” she takes slow steps toward me, staring up. “You used your own grief and pain to make money so others would have an easier time.”

I try for a smirk. “When you say it like that, I sound like a real hero huh.”

“Logan,” she says firmly, walking right up to me. “Don’t joke about it. Is that what happened?”

“Yes,” I tell her. “I’ve never enjoyed any of the parties, the women. I’ve never even kissed any of them.”

“It’s so difficult to believe.”

“I swear on Anna, Lucy. I’m telling the truth.”

She bites her lip, nodding. “You must’ve really loved Rachael, then, if you feel this way.”

I shake my head. “That’s not why I hated it. I never felt a connection with any of those women. But I do with you.”

We kiss again, magnetized, unable to stop.

Her body feels like it was made for me, my hands sliding down to her hips. We spin, and then I break off the kiss, cradling her, staring down.

“I feel a connection, too,” she says softly. “I mean…my frame of reference is just a little smaller. But this feels….”

She trails off, and I say, “Real. It feels real.”

“Yes, exactly. It does.”

“Since we’re being honest,” she says. “Can I ask something else?”

“Yeah.”

“Why did you say me being a virgin made you want me more?”

It means she belongs to me, only me, and always will.

It means she’s mine, especially her soaked slit, especially the perfect pussy I’m going to explode my seed into…and give her a family, us a family. She said she wanted one.

Yeah, probably one day.

Not so suddenly. Not like this.

“It’s been a while for me,” I say, leaning down and kissing her forehead softly. “In a way, it’ll be like it’s both our first times.”

Both those statements are true. I’m not lying to her.

But I’m not being completely honest either.

She looks at me, her eyes glinting in that tempting way. I’m sure there’s something more, but then she nods and leans forward.

I lean down.

We meet in the middle, letting our passion take over again.

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

Lucy

Logan drives the car slowly through the city, seeming in no rush to get me home. Every time I look at him, I think about kissing him again, my body sore and buzzing from what we did.

My sex aches, yet I feel the urge for more, to indulge even more fiercely, to let myself go with even more primal passion.

He knows I’m a virgin. He never kissed or did anything intimate with Maxine Waterson or any of the women.

He hasn’t had sex in over ten years.

He could be lying, a voice whispers.

But I know he’s not.

He swore on his daughter.

The only bad point is that I’ll always be living in the shadow of Rachael, Anna’s mother…but what the heck am I supposed to do about that?

It’s not his fault he once loved a woman.

And he doesn’t even know how I feel, not completely.

I was going to tell him when we were talking at the center, but the moment didn’t seem right. He was giving me too much hope, the revelation that he really cares about me. It hit me hard, right in my soul, core, and everything.

It hit me in a way I can’t even try to ignore.

But it still doesn’t mean he wants all the same stuff I do, at least not yet.

“We didn’t talk much about the job, did we?” he says, smirking as he switches lanes.

“No.” My smile comes instantly, feeling bright. “My theory is you lured me there just so you could have your wicked way with me.”

“My wicked way?” he chuckles. “But yeah, maybe there’s some truth in that. Last evening, when I was watching you walk into your apartment, I felt like an ass. You told me your friend was out, a clear signal….”

I laugh softly, waving a hand. “I was just talking.”

He glances at me. “Sure, let’s go with that. But either way, I regretted not going upstairs with you.”

“Why didn’t you?” I ask.

His hands tighten on the steering wheel, causing his bare forearms to bulge, the muscle twitching, looking like he’s going to bring the car to a screeching stop and pounce on me.

“I didn’t want to scare you.”

“Scare me?”

I care too passionately I imagine him saying. I loved you the moment I saw you. I thought it’d be too much for you to take.

“Like I said, it’s been a while…and I want you in a way I can’t really explain, Lucy. I was goddamn starving for you yesterday. I knew if I went up there, I wouldn’t be able to stop myself.”

“From what?”

“From taking your young, perfect, curvy body. From taking it hard. From fucking you like I own you.”
