“He did. It hasn’t been touched. The credit card he gave her isn’t used much either, but the ones she opened have been spending like crazy.”

I’m not shocked Sam is tracking anyone in the family opening any kind of line of credit or bank account. He’s always on top of everything. He’s the best at what he does, and that’s why he handles our finances.

“What proof do you have of this?”

“Emailing you now.” A second later, it hits my inbox. I click the attachments and see the accounts and signatures. Sam has even linked the signatures up to Grace’s from past documents.

“I need more.”

“More?”

“Yes, I want more proof.” The line goes quiet for a long moment.

“All right, I’ll see what I can do.”

I end the call, dropping my phone down on the desk, not sure what to make of this. I was sure I was wrong. I’ve caught my father and Grace being affectionate toward one another on multiple occasions. They thought they were alone in the kitchen or before I went into his office and the woman genuinely seemed to adore my father.

I’m sure my own mother had been the same way at first, though, too. I’d been an accident. Dad tried to make it work with her. They’d broken up a dozen times after having me. Their relationship was rocky at best. But one of the times they got back together, my mother got pregnant with Emily. I still think my father was about to finally throw in the towel until he found out about the baby.

The woman was a fucking nightmare toward the end. They both slept in entirely different wings of the house for the last two years of their marriage. It had been me that had finally gotten my own mother to leave. My father was starting to spiral. He’d been drinking every night. I did what I had to in order to get him out of that. I’ve never second-guessed what I did.

Once she was gone, all that stopped. It felt normal. My father stopped drinking and pulled himself back together. He seemed lighter and was living his best life. But now that I’ve seen the way he is with Grace, I don’t think things were normal for my father. He was going through the motions. With Grace, he’s fucking happy. I’ve never seen him this way.

I run my hand down my face. Of course, when I start to think everything is going to work out, it goes to shit. I told Molly I’d be nice. That I would stay out of her mother and my father’s marriage. But that was before Sam laid this information in my lap. I can’t just ignore it.

Molly is a rather good distraction. I’d come here with a plan to dig into Grace and her daughter, and fuck me if I haven’t dug into Molly. Only not in the way I had originally intended.

So many thoughts are now running through my mind on an endless loop. Am I really debating the idea that Molly has been trying to hold my attention so that I might not notice other things that are going on around here?

No, it’s a stupid thought. I’m the one chasing after her. The girl wears all her emotions on her face. If anything, I’m trying to come up with a reason why she’s so easily turned me inside out.

There is something alluring about her. The world hasn’t jaded her yet. If anything, she wants to get away from it. I’d dug up all her college acceptance letters. None were close to home. Which I don’t understand because one of the best Ivy League colleges is not far from here.

She hasn’t committed to any of the schools yet. Some of the deadlines were up, but none of that really mattered. Not with her being connected to our family. If she decides she wants to go, our name alone and a little donation to the school of her choice will get her in. I don’t understand her. She wants to get away from here, but she doesn’t actually want to go to college?

This girl has me chasing my tail trying to figure her out. I may not be able to get a read on her, but I know one thing for certain: I fucked up. At least I should call it a fuck-up, but that’s not what I consider me coming all over her pussy. Just seeing my release coating her bare pussy made me want to beat my chest like a fucking caveman.

I might be walking in my own father’s footsteps. Though mine was no accident. I knew what I was doing. And I want to do more where Molly is concerned.

Molly

“So?” I whisper to Emily. “Are you not going to tell me?”

“Thanks for covering for me.” Her response doesn’t give me much. Not long after Asher left my room, I got a text from Emily that if anyone asked about her to tell them she was still sleeping or in the shower. Which I did when I’d finally gone down to breakfast.
