He’d been really busy processing two bodies.

He’d told me to come here and wait for him, that he’d be here as soon as he could, but that was over an hour and a half ago, and I was getting impatient.

“Looking for someone?”

I turned to find the MC’s president, Denver, standing with his soon-to-be wife, Holly.

Holly waved. “How are the dogs doing?”

“Grumpy and angry,” I answered. “Mom has to feed them through the chute, and they still won’t let anyone close. The owners came out yesterday, and they snarled and snapped at them, too.”

“That’s sad,” she said. “Do you want to come meet the others? I’ll introduce you.”

I looked once more for Odin and didn’t find him.

“Sure,” I replied. “At least until Odin gets here.”

Holly’s eyes sparked as she caught my arm and guided me toward a large table where several women were crowded around.

“Ladies,” Holly said. “This is Constance. She’s new here. Kind of. Constance and Odin are dating. Birdie is dating Creed.” She pointed at a curly-haired brunette. “Creed’s sister is Bernice. You’ve probably met her.” She pointed at Bernice.

“I have.” I smiled.

“Next to Bernice is Charleigh, she works with Birdie at the dog food factory,” Holly continued, pointing at the hard-eyed blonde with aquamarine eyes. “The one to Charleigh’s right is Ida Bell. Ida Bell is Boone’s sister and Denver’s niece. She also is the nanny for Koen’s two children. They’re over there with Koen.”

I looked to where she was pointing to see a large man with two children, chasing them around a swing set.

“Sage is the one to Ida Bell’s left. She’s currently trying to tell herself that she’s not still in love with her husband. Gentry is the sheriff’s deputy that you already met.”

My lips quirked.

“Mabel is beside her. Her husband is Romeo. He’s not a member of the club, but he’s good friends of the rest of the club brothers. Then you have Boone’s wife, Nettie. And Eddy, Nettie’s sister. She’s married to Weaver.”

I shook my head. “That’s a lot of names.”

They all gave a quiet chuckle.

“I never in my life thought that Odin would settle down,” Holly said. “But seems like I was wrong.”

A child’s screech, followed by, “Odin!” had me whipping my head to the side.

Elation coursed through me as I saw Odin eating up the ground between Wendy and him.

My smile was soft as he lifted her up and smacked a kiss on her cheek.

She wrapped her small arms around his shoulder as he spoke quietly to her.

Wendy looked around, eyes searching.

Then she pointed at me and screamed, “There!”

His eyes gleamed as he headed my way.

“I can see it now.”

I peeled my eyes away from Wendy and Odin to look toward Bernice. “What?”

“You two,” she said. “I can see it now. I didn’t before.”

I smiled, even though some sadness seemed to filter into her eyes.

I wondered if she’d had feelings for Odin.

Not that it would matter.

No way in hell would I give him up.

I’d fight her to the death for him.

She smiled, and it finally reached her eyes.

Maybe she wasn’t in love with him. But maybe the idea of him.

“He’s half my heart.”

Before she could reply, Odin arrived.

And swept me right off my feet. “There you are.”

Wendy giggled and pressed a kiss to my cheek right along with Odin on the other side.

“Odin,” she whispered. “Where have you been? Mama Coco said that you were busy cutting up bodies.”

Odin snorted. “Is that right?”

Wendy nodded.

“I kind of was,” Odin admitted.

“Was it fun?”

Odin shrugged. “It was kind of stinky.”

“Like when you cut through a steak? Or when you have to clean up dog poop?” Wendy paused. “Speaking of dog poop. Mama Coco made me clean up all of Peanut’s poop. She said it’s not fun to step in.”

“Your mama’s right,” he promised. “Dog poop stinks.”

“Amen,” Holly interjected. “It’s time to eat. Who’s eating?”

Nettie got up and led the way with her belly. “I’m starving.”

Odin nuzzled my neck. “You hungry?”

I let my eyes do the talking for me as I said, “Starving.”

We snuck away after lunch, finding a quiet corner of the clubhouse to reacquaint ourselves with each other.

“Nice dress,” he mused, letting his fingers trail up the length of my bare thigh.

I’d thought long and hard about what I was going to wear.

It was once again in the mid-seventies. The weather promised to turn hazardous tonight, but right now…

“I wore it for you,” I admitted.

His hand went even higher before stilling completely as the no-underwear thing finally registered.

“You’re not wearing any underwear,” he drawled.

“Nope,” I said.

“We will have to make use of it,” he said, lifting me up by the waist and carrying me even deeper into the corner.

I wrapped my legs around his waist and kissed him hard and fierce.

He kissed me back just as fiercely, his fingers threading into my loose hair.

His fingers bumped my sex as he loosened the belt around his waist.
