“We have to promise that it won’t affect Sara in any way,” I said. “Then I’ll think about putting in the effort.”

He snorted. “Night, Greer.”

“Night, Grumpy.”

I closed the door to my bedroom and wasn’t surprised to find my birds asleep on the stair railing.

I walked past them and glanced downward at the front door.

I could’ve sworn that I had locked that.

But even now, it was wide-ass open.

I paused midstep, then changed direction to head downstairs.

I walked over to the door, then closed it firmly before throwing the chain lock and the dead bolt.

Only when I was satisfied that it was well and truly closed, then checked all the other windows and doors in the house, did I head back upstairs to what I considered my office.

All the while I worked, however, I wondered why Davis wouldn’t have closed it up on his way inside.

CHAPTER 14

This meeting should’ve been an email.

-Davis to his subordinates

GREER

I woke up sprawled on top of Davis.

And when I say on top of, I mean, I was fully on top of him. The only thing of mine touching the bed was my left knee and my right foot.

I twisted my head and looked up, blinking rapidly at the amused male face that was only inches from mine.

“Comfortable?” he asked teasingly.

I laid my head back down and closed my eyes again.

Despite him being a very hard person, I was very comfortable. In fact, I could go right back to sleep…Despite my usual routine of getting up once awakened, I’m finding Davis to be the perfect incentive to return to sleep.

“No, you don’t,” he said. “We gotta get up.”

“Why?” I licked my dry lips.

“Because I have stuff to do today, and you’re coming with me,” he answered. “Come on. Up.”

I reluctantly rolled off of him and into the cold spot where I normally slept.

It was just as comfortable, so of course I ended up closing my eyes again.

Before I could really get too deep into my eyes being closed, I was suddenly standing beside the bed, wondering how the hell I’d gotten there.

I blinked open my drooping eyelids to find Davis walking away from me.

I grumbled and went to sit down just in time to hear a loud bird squawk of outrage.

I sighed and shuffled forward. “All right. All right. Hold your horses.”

Davis chuckled from the bathroom, and I went downstairs to check out the birds’ food situation.

After feeding them, I went back upstairs in time to see Davis stepping out of the shower, dripping wet and all sexy.

“You accomplished standing for a good five minutes, good for you,” he teased.

I walked past him to the shower and cranked it up as high as it would go.

Incidentally, it wasn’t all that hot since my water heater was on the fritz. Sometimes it got scalding. Others, it was so cold it might as well not be hot at all.

Today, obviously, it chose to work.

Stepping into the shower after disrobing, I washed my hair, shaved my legs, and pulled all of the hair out of the drain cover, only to put it on the wall for me to get later.

It was only as Davis said, “that’s rather disgusting,” that I realized he was still in the bathroom with me.

“What?” I asked as I ran the bar of soap all over my body.

He indicated the hair on the wall and said, “That.”

“Oh,” I shrugged. “What did you want me to do with it?”

“I would think you’d throw it away,” he pointed out. “Not hang it on the wall in a swirly pattern.”

So I liked to make art with my hair on the shower wall.

Sue me.

“Well,” I pointed out, “it was backing up the drain. I was still in the shower. I usually grab it off once I’m done.”

Usually.

Sometimes it stayed for a time or two before I remembered it.

Okay, so more often than not, I forgot about it. But I lived alone and I was a girl with long hair. It wasn’t like I was trying to impress anyone.

“Still,” he glared at the offending swirl, “I would’ve gotten the trash for you.”

I started laughing. “So you can have sex with a woman on her period, but you can’t stand to look at hair on a shower wall?”

“I guess.” He lifted his lip in disgust. “I don’t know why it’s bothering me so bad. I can do gross things, but apparently not that.”

“Because you’re a pussy,” I teased.

His eyes went intense as he said, “I’m not a pussy. That’s just really weird.”

It wasn’t.

I can guarantee you every girl with long hair did this on a regular basis.

And if they didn’t, they were one of the few that either A, remembered to take their hair out of the shower drain after they were done, or B, remembered to grab it before anyone could see it.
