“Now why do you, of all people, have Boosie as a ringtone?” Chortling, she cocked her head to the side and lit her long silver smokey.

“Legend did that shit. He put it on my phone the other day.”

“You don’t have a passcode to stop mothafuckas like him from hoppin’ on there and sending themselves a Zelle or CashApp to the tune of thousands of dollars?”

“Legend caught me off guard, smashed my thumb against the phone, then ran off. He’s a fuckin’ child.” They both burst out laughing as he answered the phone, putting it on speaker.

“Hey, man!” Legend yelled over some music. It sounded like ‘Nann’ by Trick Daddy and Trina.

“What’s up, Legend? What do you want?”

“You busy?”

“You know I’m at Azure’s right now. I just saw you earlier today.”

“Oh, y’all cuttin’? Beatin’ them cheeks? You takin’ ol’ one eye Willy to the optometrist?”

“…Legend.”

Azure shook her head and laughed again.

“I can’t wait to meet him.” She giggled. “He sounds like a hoot. Hey, I’ve heard a lot about you, Legend!” she yelled out.

“Yeah, I’ve heard some shit ’bout you too, girl! You fine, too. Thicka than a snicka. Caspian shot me a pic of you, and… baby, stop! Damn! I’m just givin’ the man and the lady a compliment! Shit! Stop bein’ insecure. You know you’re the only one for me… I ain’t blind though. You want me to gouge my eyes out and be walkin’ around here singing ‘Isn’t she lovely?’ by Stevie Wonder instead?”

Desiree could be clearly heard cursing in the background.

“…I ain’t insecure, you just don’t need to be doing all of that. You always go too far. And leave them alone! He said he was wit’ his girlfriend!” Yup, it was definitely Desiree. “This shit coulda waited!”

“Anyway! The reason I called, man, was ’cause I showed Des yo’ girl’s pic, right? And she said she looks like Ashley Blaine Featherson. Only wit’ butterfly locs. She’s right!”

Caspian turned to his lady and sized her up. A cloud of smoke surrounded her.

“…Yeah, I can see that. They favor each other.”

“I’ve been told that before. Thank you, Desiree!” Azure stated in a loud tone to ensure she was heard. “She’s a beautiful actress.”

“Yes, she is! All right, you told her. Now hang up, Legend. Leave them alone. We gotta take Roman over to Mama’s.”

“All right, man. We gotta go. Don’t mind me. Y’all get back to fuckin’. Speaking of that, you should do an ‘Only Fans’ if you want to make a few extra dollars.”

“…I think we’re good, Legend.” He snorted.

“Why are you lookin’ at me like that, Des?! It’s a business venture! Only Fans has some respected actors.”

“And how would you know that?! Boy, if I find out you spendin’ our money to look at some random bitch’s monkey, I’mma beat yo’ behind!”

“You ain’t gonna beat shit, and she’s not a random bitch, baby. Her name is Black Diamond and she’s a decent young lady. Put some respect on that stripper’s name.” Legend burst out laughing, but it was cut short for the phone call ended abruptly. Azure and Caspian burst out laughing.

“See? He’s crazy… just like I told you. That’s my brother though. We grew up together. I love him. Desiree is perfect for him, too. She’s a good woman. She’d have to be, to put up with Legend… He loves her. It’s nice to see him in love and happy. Really happy.”

He could feel her gazing at him as he stared at the flat screen television that was currently turned off.

“That is a really sweet thing to say. I love it when men talk like that about your friends, unashamed to express your care and concern for one another. That’s real mature of you.” She winked at him.

“I try, but being mature too often is for suckers.” He popped his collar and chuckled.

“I’ve got girlfriends that I may as well be sisters with, too. A close bond. It’s important to have at least one good friend. Two is really nice, but keep the circle small. Real friends ain’t the same as just folks you know and are friendly with. Friendships that last the test of time? Rare, and it’s a beautiful thing.” He nodded in agreement, then took a sip of his wine. “Now, let’s get back to where we were at.”

Wrapping her hand around his neck, she brought him for a kiss. He tilted his head and finessed her supple lips apart, deepening their oral embrace. When she pulled away, he lured her in for more. He begrudgingly allowed her to slip away moments later when she picked up both of their glasses from the table and disappeared into her kitchen to refill them. He looked down at his crotch.

“Easy, boy…” he teased as it strained against his boxer briefs. “Thank you,” he said to her with a light smile as he took the glass from her hand and set it down. “When can I see this art of yours? I see some of your pieces around your place here.” He looked about. “They’re beautiful, but I’d love to see more. Do you have a portfolio or something?”
