He slowly shook his head, then let his gaze drift to my mouth. “You thought I wanted to sleep with Brandi.”

I forced myself to step out of his hold. “Well, I thought maybe your current fuck buddy—Jennifer, is it?—might be busy.”

An odd expression crossed his face. Was that regret? Nonsense, Harlee. I highly doubted Braxton Bradley regretted anything he did.

“I don’t have any fuck buddies, Harlee.”

I felt a bark of laughter slip free, hating how bitter it made me sound. “Really? That’s not what I witnessed on Thanksgiving.”

He exhaled and pushed his fingers through his hair before he turned and walked to a small window that overlooked the bay. “I ought to show you right now,” he muttered.

I swallowed hard, then asked in a voice barely above a whisper, “Show me what?”

He turned and leaned against the windowsill. A sexy smirk crossed his handsome face before he said, “That the only woman I want to fuck is standing in this room.”

Brax

From the expression on Harlee’s face, I wasn’t sure if she was angry or turned on by the crass words that came out before I had the chance to stop them. She’d made me so angry with how she’d acted toward Brandi. I’d never in my life seen her be so rude.

Or maybe I was angry with myself…because I was the one who’d brought it out of her.

When she finally spoke, I had to hold back a smile.

“Oh, that’s really nice, Brax. Such a romantic way to express yourself. Do all the women fall at your feet with that one?”

I shrugged. “I’m simply telling you the truth the quickest way I know how, since you seemed to think I wanted Brandi instead.”

Harlee tried to make herself look angry, but I could see the disbelief in her eyes. I could also see that she wanted me as much as I wanted her—and that made my entire body feel as if it was on fire. The sexual tension in the room was so thick, you could cut the air with a dull-bladed knife.

“A guy once told me that the only thing men want from women is sex. You proved yourself right, Brax. Again. If you think I’m going to lean over this bed and let you take me from behind simply because we’re alone, you’re wrong.”

I raised a brow. “You don’t want me deep inside of you, right here, right now?”

“Yes. I mean, no!” Harlee’s cheeks turned bright red. “No, I don’t want that. You. Whatever! You brute!”

She shook her head and let out a nervous laugh. Christ, she was beautiful. I wasn’t sure what turned me on more. Her spit and fire, or the fact that she was so stunningly beautiful both inside and out.

“Is that what the women you sleep with enjoy?” she snapped. “A man who talks dirty and crude to them?”

“Was that crude? I didn’t think so. I was being truthful. Is that not what you like, Harlee? An honest man who knows what he wants—and knows how to satisfy his lovers? You liked it the last time we were together.”

Her mouth opened slightly before she clamped it shut.

I took a step away from the window. “Was Thomas a sweet and kind lover?”

She lifted her chin as she crossed her arms over her chest. “As a matter of fact, he was.”

Man, she walked right into that one. “And that’s probably why you got tired of him.” I let my gaze wander over her body before I looked back at her face. “What you want is a man who tells you exactly what he wants. And no, I don’t want to bend you over and fuck you from behind, Harlee. What I really want is for you to sit on the edge of that bed while I make you come with my mouth. I want to hear you scream my name like you did back then. I want to see if you still taste as sweet as you did before.”

Harlee took a few steps back until she bumped into the bed, letting out another bubble of nervous laughter. “Well, that’s never going to happen again, and you know why?”

Moving closer, I asked, “Why is that?”

Chewing nervously on her lips, she held out her hand to stop me. I was inches away from her now. I could feel the heat coming off her body.

“Because I’ll never allow you to use me as a plaything again, Brax. Never.”

My heart felt as if it slammed against my rib cage. I was assaulted by the memory of the hurt on Harlee’s face that night, and it was so real that it felt like we were standing in my house all over again. The pain was so raw on her face then, I’d wanted to tear my eyes out so I could no longer see it.
