“He's still up in Vail acting like he didn't do shit,” Richie grumbles. Clearly wishing he was there instead of staring at all his possible executioners.
“Why did that prick help you?” I asked, needing to know why so many people wanted to end my life. Sure, I had made enemies, but I hadn’t even been in town for a day before I had people wanting to kill me.
“Well, he’s my cousin, not even a good one, but he’s all for some trouble. Besides, he’d do whatever the boss tells him. You pissed off the boss and he wanted you to pay.”
“Well, everybody believes that you still don't have your memory back. They're banking on it.”
“Well, now we have video evidence. And let's just say I'm feeling like the law is going to be my friend this time.”
“Wait. You’re not going to kill me?”
“No. We’re going to have you arrested and charged with attempted murder.”
“How? Your evidence is illegal, and you kidnapped me.”
“Well, see, that’s where you’re wrong,” my father adds. We didn’t tell him that Miles bought out Steiner and his property, making the tapes and the system legally his. After a quick change of a couple of law enforcement officials, we are ready to lay into these assholes. No need to kill anyone yet.
Law comes in with his deputy and makes the arrest. As he leads him away, I catch his cold glare. “I need a word with you.”
“Yes, sir.” I’m just as large as Vivian’s father, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not intimidated by him. He holds my happiness in his hands.
“Why are you rushing to marry my daughter?”
“Do you expect us to live together and not be married?”
“You don’t need to move in together.”
I laughed in his face, even though I didn’t mean to, but the man has a lot of gall. Any and all of the Steele Riders couldn’t dare argue that my demand isn’t even logical or necessary because at least I’m waiting. I didn’t just fuck, take her home, and then marry her. No, there is going to be a wedding, and then I’ll bend her into a fucking delicious pretzel.
“Are you suggesting that I…”
“Don’t finish that sentence. I regret opening my mouth already. It’s just that I’m not ready for her to be grown up.”
“I’m sure no one is, but I’m in love with her and have been for a long time. I almost lost everything and nearly lost her. I can’t wait for life to pass me by because there might be someone better for the both of us. I damn well know there isn’t. She’s my little brat. I’ve rented a condo, and I’m asking Vivian to move in with me. I know we both have class, but we’re responsible.”
He nods. “Take care of her.”
“I will.”
“Good.”
We shake hands, and then I ask my dad and Law, “So, what are your plans with Steiner?”
“Him? We have a lot of plans with that asshole, but it’s going to take some time. It seems his daughter wasn’t lying. As much as you and Vivian don’t like her, she’s a real victim of his abuse. She was looking for a way out any way she could get it.”
I huff because Vivian isn’t going to like it. “Don’t worry. Her mother will have a chat with her. Your mom and hers didn’t get along before either. It took a big incident for the ice to crack in their relationship.”
I’d forgotten about that story, but he was right. They hated each other, and Viv’s mother hit on my father before just to make my mom angry.
“Well, I hope she sees it that way and things work out okay because I’m not willing to upset Vivian.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll do it.”
“I don’t want her upset at all.” He doesn’t understand that I put my woman through enough, and seeing any pain in Vivian’s eyes and heart is too much for me.
“It will all work out.” I sure as fuck hope so.
Chapter Thirteen
Vivian
The blindfold over my eyes heightens my arousal. “What are you planning to do to me?” I trust Simon, so I let him guide me safely wherever he wants.
“Welcoming you into our new home the proper way, Vivian.” When he slid the black silk over my face, I had no clue that he would lead me to a condo. He doesn’t remove it until we’re in the bedroom. He strips off my dress and then my bra, leaving only my panties on. Then, with a light press to my chest, he sends me falling backwards onto the mattress.
The sheets are foreign to me, smoother than mine.
“Our new home?” I question as his hands roam slowly up my thighs.
“Yes. You said we should just move in together before we marry, and it’s the best idea,” he answers as he disperses little kisses up my legs. I’ve waited for this moment for so long; I’m both nervous and excited. My body doesn’t know how to respond to the pleasure. It’s all new and thrilling as he touches me and teases me, and I can’t stop squirming.
