We were hanging out in my diner and I was showing off the new part I’d encouraged the magical building to grow. The booths had finally hardened up enough and we were sitting in a really long one, testing it out. It was the perfect size for our girls’ group.
Beside us was a large, plate-glass window. Hidden Hollow in all its Autumn splendor could be seen just outside. I smiled as a gust of wind swirled golden leaves across Main Street. I love my town.
“So what are your guys going to do?” Sarah asked me. “Are the three of them going to move in here with you and stay in Hidden Hollow?”
“Yes, that’s the plan.” I nodded. “Of course, they still have their cabin in the woods if anyone wants some alone time. But for the most part, we’ll be living behind the diner. It’ll be cramped for a few months but I’m already encouraging my living area to grow a lot bigger,” I added. “And they’re going to help in the diner—so it’s perfect.”
“It seems that Hidden Hollow gets new residents every day now,” Celia remarked. “I remember when there were just a handful of townspeople.”
“Well, the outside world is getting more and more distressing,” Goody A remarked, taking another sip of her herbal tea. “And Hidden Hollow is a sacred space—it was built as a kind of sanctuary during the Salem Witch Trials, you know. So it makes sense that the town will be trying to draw in those with magic in their blood, to keep them safe in these uncertain times.”
“I think that’s sweet of the town,” Harmony remarked, with a dreamy smile. “It pulled me in at just the right time. I don’t know what would have happened to me if it hadn’t—my life on the other side was awful.”
“Mine too.” Willow shuddered. “I had a horrible ex and a Hell Hound after me!”
“Hidden Hollow will always be a refuge to those in need,” Goody Albright said wisely. “The only question is…who will it draw in next?”
I didn’t know the answer to that…though I could think of some lonely bachelor Creatures in town who needed mates. Liam sprang to mind—the town’s resident Kraken was getting grumpier by the day. And since Hidden Hollow seemed to be pulling in witches from the human world left and right, maybe the next one who came through would be for him.
I supposed that only time would tell…but I knew one thing for sure:
In Hidden Hollow, anything is possible.
THE END?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
