“For the last time, I’m not your concern. Coby is.”

Ire swam in sinful brown eyes. “As long as you are in my home, you belong to me, and I protect what’s mine. That includes you, whether you like it or not.”

The bathroom door opened.

I quickly put space between us when Coby stepped out, cloaked in a cloud of steam. I held my breath, certain she’d heard us. I didn’t need to see Ocean’s face to know he was, too. It didn’t matter that we had her blessing—not telling her felt like deception.

But what if Ocean was right? What if the truth hurt Coby more?

Finally, the steam parted, revealing her pretty face.

My stomach sank.

This is so fucking awkward, I thought an hour later as I lay in bed staring at the vaulted ceiling and the exposed wooden beams while Coby talked my ear off.

For some reason, I’d chosen to follow my heart.

The only problem was that my head wouldn’t stop screaming that this could never work. It was all I could do not to bolt out the door that I kept eyeing. I was already showered and dressed for bed in one of Ocean’s T-shirts. I could already feel exhaustion creeping in, but I wouldn’t allow myself to sleep. Not yet.

Ocean was currently in the shower while Coby and I waited for him.

In his bed.

“Hunter.” Snapping out of my stupor, I looked over at Coby, who had slid over to lie next to me with her elbow propped up on the pillow and her head in her hand. “Are you okay?”

“Yes.”

“Are you lying to me?”

“Yes.”

“Hunter…I’ll understand if you don’t want to do this. We both will. I won’t be mad. Promise.”

I shook my head. “It’s not that.”

Coby frowned. “Then what’s wrong?”

I made a sound of distress. “I can’t tell you.”

Coby searched my gaze before saying, “Ocean?”

Wordlessly, I nodded. Neither of us noticed the shower had shut off until Ocean left the bathroom, and we both jumped like we’d been caught with our hands in the cookie jar. He glanced at the bed on the way to the closet, and Coby scrambled back to her side.

“Why did you move?” I whispered.

Coby looked guilty all of a sudden as she avoided my gaze and drew hearts into the sheets. The long ribbon she wore around her ankle today was blue to match her nightie. “Because Ocean said I wasn’t allowed to—not until you made up your mind.”

I frowned. “Allowed to do what?”

Her eyes rose from the bed, but she didn’t say a word. She didn’t have to.

Ocean walked out of the closet just as I was about to spill our secret and expose what a hypocrite he was, but one meaningful look exchanged between us, and all I wanted to do was follow his lead.

Ocean climbed into the middle of the bed, and Coby immediately went to him while I stayed frozen where I was, content to watch him grip her ass beneath the blue nightie and kiss her senseless. Their size difference was crazy. I couldn’t tell if she was just that small or he was just that tall. Even with Coby on top, it was clear who was in control. They were obviously used to sharing a bed, and so were Coby and I, but this…this was new.

“We should probably stop,” Coby teased after ending the kiss and falling to Ocean’s side. She rested her head on his chest and stared at me. “I think we’re scaring Hunter.”

“Vengeance,” Ocean called his pet name for me in a deep rumble. “Come here.”

I felt the back of my neck grow hot as I let myself slide across the bed until I was curved around Ocean’s other side with my hand resting on his abs. I wasn’t prepared for Ocean to roll me onto my back and kiss me as deeply as he kissed Coby. His body on top of me felt so good, I forgot to be afraid of how much I wanted it as I clutched his side and wrapped my legs around his waist. I moaned, feeling Ocean’s big dick harden against my pussy, and then a moment later, the kiss ended.

“You good?” he asked, checking in with me.

I nodded when I couldn’t quite catch my breath, and then his heavy weight was gone. Ocean returned to Coby, who was watching us with a victorious smile she tried to hide, and then he dragged me against him.

“Good night, mo aingeal.”

“Good night.”

Ocean closed his eyes and settled in for the night before saying, “Good night, Vengeance.”

My eyes were already drifting closed when I mumbled, “Good night.”

COBY

I lifted the heavy arm locked around my waist and exhaled quietly when it dropped like dead weight on the mattress behind me. Ocean had come in late, showered, fucked me, and then collapsed next to me with a gentle kiss goodnight before he succumbed to exhaustion.
