Two years ago, I married Trinity. She was still in school and still interning, so we didn’t go on a honeymoon, but Byron, Dylan, and Dylan’s parents took turns with Wyatt for a week, giving us time alone together without having to worry about our son so we could consummate our marriage as many times we wanted… which we did quite a lot. I couldn’t get enough of my beautiful wife.
Now, I was watching my gorgeous wife unlock the door to her brand-new office building that she would be turning into a doctor’s office. She’d sold everything Zac had left her and put it into a savings account, letting it accumulate interest over the years. And when she graduated, she took that money and bought this place outright, bringing a doctor’s office right here to our small town so people would no longer have to travel so far to see a doctor.
I was so proud of her. She’d come so far, had healed so much, and now, she stood taller and stronger than she ever had before. Zachary fucking Vale had tried to kill her spirit, and he’d failed. She’d been worn down for a little while, but when she began healing, she got angry. One day, she’d just gone on a walk, and I stood on the back porch, watching her.
She sank to her knees in the middle of one of my fields I’d harvested two days before and screamed her rage out into the sky. She’d scared the birds in the field, but as the setting sun bled around her, she’d never looked so fucking beautiful. Because in that moment, she snatched back everything that son of a bitch tried to take from her.
“How’s it feel?” I asked, following Trinity inside the small building. It wasn’t large, but she didn’t need anything big. She’d bought this place to cater to our small town. A place that had healed her after her attack. In her mind, this was her way of paying back the community that had welcomed her with open arms.
Everyone here adored her, and when they found out she was planning to open a doctor’s office in town, so many people were excited they would no longer have to travel over an hour to get to their regular doctors. She was even thinking about having emergency hours, but I was trying to talk her out of that.
I was selfish, and I wanted her with me after her workday was over. Sue me.
“It feels good,” she said, turning to smile at me. Her smile was so goddamn pretty, it sucker punched me right in the chest, knocking the breath from my lungs. “I can’t believe this is mine. That I’m a fucking doctor, Jimmie.”
I grinned. “I never expected anything less than greatness from you, baby.” Pulling her to me, I slanted my lips across hers in a soft kiss that wreaked havoc on my nervous system. She sank into me easily, her arms twining around my neck. After we parted, I rested my forehead on hers, blowing out a soft breath. “You have no fucking clue how goddamn proud of you I am.”
She hummed. “I might have some idea. You fucked me so damn good after I bought this place that you accomplished defying the power of my birth control.”
My brows pulled low over my eyes. “What?” I asked, not following.
She reached into her back pocket and pulled out a folded slip of paper. I frowned as I took it from her and unfolded it.
