“You have a smart mouth.” Too smart. “I was told you were easy to work with.”

“I am, and I’m damn good at what I do. What I’m not, is someone who will stand around and be browbeaten because you’re mad at yourself for not knowing what was going on in your own company. We haven’t signed a damn contract yet, Mr. Rhodes. I would suggest you shove the insufferable ass behavior to a place the sun doesn’t shine. I’m fully content to just walk away from all of this and leave you to figure out the answers on your own. Looks like I wasn’t given the same, or rather, correct intel you were.”

She walked from him and crouched by a stack of boards that Chester had put down, her heels making her legs look amazing. The way she positioned herself highlighted the taut curve of her ass.

In his peripheral vision he noticed Chester’s poor attempt to hide his amused grin. Snarling in his direction, Livingston hated that all it did was make Chester’s smirk grow. Bastard knew what he was doing.

Rocking back on his heels, Livingston made certain that his gaze wasn’t on her when she pushed back to her feet.

“What does that mean?” He refused to let this go. What did she mean that she’d not been given the same intel? And what was wrong with him that he wanted to keep verbally sparring with this woman?

“I don’t have time to debate with you, Mr. Rhodes.” She cut her dark gaze at him. “Make up your mind now, you want me or you don’t. I’m not here to play twenty questions and try to appease your outlandish ego, as I’m sure you expect most women to do.”

Livingston narrowed his focus onto the glint in her eye and encroached right on her space. He gave her credit, she didn’t flinch, back away, or even avert her stare. No, not this tigress. She held his gaze with one of her own so cold it gave his balls frostbite.

“I. Want. You.”

Daisy propped her hands on her hips and surveyed her new workplace. Whiteboards were up, on a small folding table she had stacks of legal pads, sticky notes—of all varieties—pens for the boards, cloth to clean them with and pencils. She preferred lead over ink.

The suite had a nice desk as well, and that she’d left mostly clean, aside from her laptop and one legal pad to its left. Her favorite mug, which traveled with her, sat on the right side of the computer. The oversized ceramic mug had been a gift from a client. Mostly black, it had blue, purple and green glaze that appeared almost like it had spilled over from the top.

The mug had been handmade for her with lead-free porcelain glaze, and she utterly adored everything about it.

She’d long since changed out of her suit and now stood comfortably in shorts and a cut-off sweatshirt. Pale yellow fuzzy socks covered her feet. Even though she was far more comfortable now, her body still hummed with electricity from her interactions with Livingston Rhodes.

“Why did I think this would be a good thing to do?” She turned her gaze to boxes he’d had brought up for her. She’d asked for paper and electronic. Paper had been all he could provide.

This was going to take her a while, and she had no doubt she would be here over Christmas. Something her sisters weren’t going to be happy about. Oh well, she would focus on that later. Right now she needed to cool her core temperature down and remind herself that this Livingston wasn’t anything like the one who she’d joined in the hotel room all those months ago.

That man had been passionate, dominant, giving—and an exhausting lover. This man? Dominant for sure, but an asshole.

A sexy asshole, but an asshole nonetheless.

Her phone rang and she touched her earbud without waiting to hear who was calling.

“This is Daisy.”

“Hey, girl, hey.” Xandra’s familiar tone crossed the line. “I haven’t heard from you, what did you think about the…job? Are you taking it?”

Having been on her way to the boxes, she paused at Xandra’s wording. It clicked. All at once, it clicked in her head.

“You knew,” she accused the woman who had become her friend after Daisy had done a job for her company.

Laughter spilled from Xandra, weaving around her like a handmade shawl full of warmth and love. “Of course I knew.”

Daisy ignored the boxes and walked to the sprawling window that showcased this incredible city. Hands on the glass, she heaved a frustrated sigh. “Why didn’t you tell me? This is an ethics issue.”

Xandra snorted. “Really? From what you said about him after your shared night in Seattle, there’s not going to be an issue other than how you keep your clothing on.”
