Right now, he’s not thinking about the family—not that part of it, anyway. It’s our little family he’s more concerned with. “I’m busy!” I tell him with a laugh when he joins me, rubbing my belly from behind while nuzzling my neck. “Come on. I have to get this finished.”

“You have months until the baby is born. Why are you in such a hurry?” He inhales deeply and growls. “Why do you smell so good?”

“I want to make sure I have all of this taken care of so I can enjoy her.” And I’m not delusional. I know having a newborn is going to change my life in ways I can’t imagine.

The way Enzo has changed my life. Enzo grunts and growls like an animal and starts tugging at my dress, pulling it up over my thighs and running his hands over my skin. No matter how many times he touches me, it’s never enough. I still tingle every time.

“I want to enjoy you,” he growls in my ear before finally pulling me out of the chair and pressing himself against me. There’s no mistaking what’s poking me in the ass.

“Yes, you feel ready,” I observe with a snicker, even though I can’t pretend I don’t love it. He pulls me over to the bed, and I laugh and only pretend to fight him off.

“I can’t help it.” He works the dress up over my hips, then my belly, and I raise my arms so he can take it off completely. There’s no point in even trying to pretend I don’t want him—my hormones are off the charts, for one thing. For another, I can’t pretend it doesn’t feel good to be wanted like this.

He turns me around and drops to his knees, rubbing a hand over my belly while looking up at me. “I walk around with a hard-on half the time. Just the thought of you carrying my child like this. All I want to do is sink into you.”

I run my hands through his hair, smiling down at him. “What was your excuse before I started showing?”

“Knowing you would eventually?”

By the time he nudges me onto the bed, I’m laughing helplessly. “I love you.” I giggle.

Surprise steals my breath and cuts off my laughter. Now there’s nothing but silence—that and the frantic beating of my heart. I didn’t mean to say it. Neither of us has said anything close since the wedding. It just came out. I couldn’t help it. Shit.

He goes still, staring down at me. Should I say something? Should I apologize? “I… uh…” I whisper, but I can’t think of anything to say.

As it turns out, I don’t need to come up with anything. “I love you, too.”

I let out a shaky breath, staring at him, waiting for him to laugh or sneer or something. But he doesn’t. All he does is smile, and it’s warm, genuine, and sweet.

“Really?”

“Really. I love you.” The words are a little strained, like he’s not used to saying them. But he means it; I feel it in the way my heart swells, in the peace that washes over me. The last puzzle piece has fallen into place, and the picture is complete. We are a family, really and truly, and we always will be. And now I know in my heart we won’t try for another baby just because I didn’t give him the son he wants. We’ll try again because we want to grow our family. Because we want our love to live on in our babies, and it will grow as they grow.

Happy tears fill my eyes when I sit up and reach for him. “Then you’d better get over here and take me right now.”

“I thought you were in a big hurry to get your work done,” he reminds me with a chuckle as I undo his belt.

“I have all kinds of work I need to get done,” I tell him with a grin as I drop his pants. “Right now, you’re at the top of my list.”

And he always will be.
