“Doesn’t that seem a bit creepy? I mean, it sounds very controlling.” I didn’t want to offend them, but the whole idea of the men constantly tracking the women’s movements sounded too much for me. I didn’t want any part of it.

Kitty pursed her lips before answering me slowly. “I suppose if you look at it like they’re being Big Brother or something. But they’re not doing it to get us in trouble or to make sure we don’t do anything they don’t approve of. It’s just that they’re over-the-top protective, especially of the women and children of members of the club.”

“Sure, Ripper has every bike tagged with a GPS, but, again, it’s for safety.” Lucy continued explaining where Kitty left off. “If someone gets in trouble we know about it and can send help. Same with us. More than one of their women has been kidnapped because of dangers following us or to get back at a member of the club. They’re understandably cautious.”

“You can’t tell me they’re that protective. No man I’ve ever met is that protective.” It was true. Even my dad hadn’t gone that overboard, and I thought he was pretty protective of me.

“Really.” Lucy grinned at me. “Because you’ve met Ripper. And he’s probably gotten started with all that stuff for you. If not? Give it time. But I guarantee he’s already got plans for a tracker of some kind for you. That man is more protective than all of them combined.”

“In fact, I’m pretty sure he’s made the rest of them even worse than they were before they met him.” Kitty reached out for one of my hands. I sat on the bed on top of the covers with my back to the headboard. The women had propped several pillows behind me, and there was a blanket folded neatly across the foot of the bed. “He’s a good man, you know.”

“He seems to be,” I said softly.

“Are you going to let him take care of you?” Lucy looked at me intently. “Vicious seems to think he wants to.”

“I don’t need anyone to take care of me.” I said it automatically. It was the way I’d been brought up. My dad was wonderful, and he had looked out for me, but he believed I should be able to take care of myself. I did, too. Because, when the person you depended on left you, you had no one to rely on but yourself.

“Honey, everyone needs someone to look after and take care of them,” Lucy said. “The men take care of us, but we take care of them, too. And they take care of each other. We all look after the kids.”

“Give him a chance,” Kitty said with a smile. “You could definitely do a lot worse for yourself. And your baby.”

Immediately, my hand went to my belly. I was already feeling the child kick. Much as I hated to admit it, I really wanted to get seen by the doctor. Lucy wasn’t wrong in thinking I wanted to see my baby. Make sure it was doing well.

“What are you hoping for?” Lucy asked.

“A girl,” I replied softly with a smile.

“That would be awesome. The men all claim to want boys, but the girls wrap them up so tightly, it’s comical. You should have seen Alizay’s little girl with Blood and Vicious when she was younger. She had pink glitter fingernail polish out painting their nails. They tried to get her to just do their toenails, but she said their feet were icky and she was not touching them.” Both women laughed at the memory.

“They really let the girls do that?” It sounded too good to be true.

“Oh, yeah,” Kitty continued. “There have been tea parties as well.”

“And don’t forget Christmas when they still consider the men with beards free game with the red and green glitter, and that started when Suzie at Bones was still young.” Lucy laughed.

“Then our kids get together with the kids of Black Reign and it’s even worse. Especially El Diablo’s daughter, Dawn. That girl…” Both women laughed before Kitty continued. “She is the most spoiled child in the whole world. And if one of the boys dares tell her no, she runs to her daddy.”

“He’s never even said a cross word to the boys, but his reputation has them scared to death of him. At least, if they tell his daughter no.”

That intrigued me. “How old is she?”

“She’s thirteen. And believe me when I tell you, she’s a handful.” Kitty smiled as she shook her head. “I pity whatever poor man she sets her sights on, because her daddy will kill him if he touches her, but probably if he rejects her, too.”

“That sounds… terrifying.” But I giggled. If these women were to be believed, this sounded like a wonderful place for a child to grow up.
