After Amina collapsed in his arms, Ethan feared the worse, especially when he noted the bruises around her neck and her swollen cheek. But once he fully accessed the situation, words escaped him.
He wasn’t sure who needed rescuing, Amina, Mark or her cousin Candace.
Ethan couldn’t believe his sweet, meek Amina had fucked her two tormentors up so thoroughly that they needed medical attention when the police finally arrived.
Mark had been beaten so badly, the police didn’t know who to arrest. Amina and Ethan explained Mark’s harassment and sited the complaint Amina had already filed with the police department. The bruises around Amina’s neck sealed Mark and Candace’s fate and they were both taken to the hospital for treatment, in handcuffs.
Ethan had a feeling that those two would never bother Amina again unless they wanted more of the same. The one thing about bullies was that they only bullied people who were afraid of them.
Amina was definitely no longer afraid.
Amina suffered from a bruised windpipe which made it hard for her to swallow. Ethan insisted on her getting an x-ray to determine the extensiveness of the damage. Thankfully, all her treatment required was resting her voice, avoiding strenuous activity and using ice packs.
Fortunately, Ethan didn’t have any surgeries for the remainder of the week and was able to stay home with Amina.
Once he was assured that Amina would be okay, he finally took the chance to listen to Glen’s voicemail which brought him to the café they decided to meet in for coffee while they discussed Ethan’s case.
“It’s okay. I know you’ve had lot going on. How’s Amina by the way?”
“She’s doing better she just can’t keep still. I tell her she has to rest but she doesn’t listen. She’s got it in her head that she wants to redecorate our condo. I don’t mind as long as she doesn’t try to move any furniture on her own”
Glen raised a brow. “This is getting really serious isn’t it?”
“Glen I intend to spend the rest of my life with her. In fact, I’m going to ask her to marry me. I’m just waiting for the right time.”
“Wow, congrats man.”
“She’s the one. I think I’ve known it since I first met her. Anyway, let me go up to the counter and get a coffee and you can tell me everything you dug up.”
Ethan went to the front and ordered a small Americano with one sugar. With coffee in hand he returned to his table where Glen had placed a heavy file.
“That’s what I’ve managed to dig up these past few months in a nutshell.”
Ethan scanned through the folder while he sipped his coffee. There was nothing out of the ordinary here. He saw that shortly after his father returned to Korea, he became engaged to Kim Soo-ah. She was the only daughter of the Chairman of Wind Star construction company. At that time it was one of the biggest builders in South Korea but it had run into trouble after there were accusations of unethical practices and using shoddy building material. It had all come to a head when one of their buildings collapsed killing several workers.
However, once the engagement announcement of Wind Star’s heiress and JKB’s heir was made, Wind Star’s troubles suddenly disappeared. There was speculation they were bailed out by JKB.
Kung-chul and Soo-ah were wed in a lavish wedding and within months, their first child a son, Jung Ji-hoon was born. The reports noted that he was premature, but there was speculation that Soo-ah may have been pregnant before the marriage.
Three years later a baby girl, Jung Ji-woo was born.
Ethan continued to read through the files not exactly knowing how to feel. From what he was reading the Jung Family had an ideal life while his mother had struggled to raise him on her own. He couldn’t push away the twang of bitterness that squeezed his heart.
Did his father feel guilty about everything? Is that why he’d kept in contact with his mother and sent her his secretary’s information.
He finally pushed the folder away from him, his eyes growing tired from all the information in front of him.
“Is this just the history of this company and the family involved? What am I looking for.”
“Well you did say you wanted me to dig up everything. That’s just the background information. But if you go a little deeper you’ll get the good stuff.” Glen reached into the file and pulled out some pictures.”
“This is a picture of Jung Ji-hoo, and one of Jung Ji-woo. And here is one of Cha Jin-wook.”
The first two pictures were of Ethan’s half siblings. He’d seen pictures of them online. They were older in these pictures. The other man looked familiar and then it clicked.
It was his murderer.
He took another sip of his coffee to calm down. He couldn’t explain to Glen what happened in his other life without looking crazy.
