“You made it.”
“I made it.”
“Let’s not talk here, come on.” He turned the car around, and they headed in the opposite direction.
“What’s going on?” she asked.
“I want to make sure you’re not followed. We’re only assuming they don’t know who you are, but we don’t know for certain. Anyone could be following you.”
She hadn’t even thought about that. Glancing behind her, she tried to see if anyone followed, but there was no one there.
Nibbling her lip, she didn’t know how long they drove, but he finally pulled up outside a drive-thru burger place and ordered them some food. They stayed in the car, and Dmitriy was like a completely different person when they were around people. It was odd to see the ghost devil acting so normal. She liked it, but then she had come to realize she liked a lot of things about Dmitriy.
“Tell me about your day. The whole setup, everything.”
She told him about everything, from the moment she entered the house, the guards checking her stuff, and also how easily he was distracted.
“That’s still not good. We can’t risk you taking a gun. Anyone would be able to sense it or feel it.”
“They don’t have any sensors, though,” Anastasia said.
“That’s because they’re being sneaky little shits. They don’t know we finally figured out that something is not right with Gnesin. Go on.”
She told him everything. The rooms being cleaned. There were no signs of struggle. All the guards had the same mark of the Gambino. There was no room for her to go hunting.
They finished their food, and Dmitriy turned the engine over and shook his head. “I don’t want you to go back there,” he said.
“Dmitriy, come on. I made it through the first day, and you said that was going to be a miracle, and guess what, a miracle has happened, because I am here.” She smiled at him.
“It’s too dangerous. We’re going to have to figure out another way.”
“You’ve got to give me time. You need to tell me where they would store Gnesin, especially if he is alive. That is what you need to do.”
“I’m putting you at risk.”
She reached out and put her hand on his arm. “No, I’m putting myself at risk with this, and trust me, this is something I want to do. I need to do it, for my parents.”
“Anastasia?”
“No, don’t ... do that. I’m going to be fine. Trust me.”
Dmitriy went silent.
He had taught her a few moves, and she had fired those guns until she had been able to finally make the shot. It wasn’t easy.
Anastasia knew if she was discovered she was as good as dead. For now, no one knew who she was. They all believed her to be dead, and those men that might have caught sight of her at the cabin were all dead. No one but Dmitriy knew who she was. If she ever discovered Gnesin, there was a chance he wouldn’t know who she was.
“I don’t like this,” he said.
“I know, but it is our only option.”
Dmitriy reached out and took her hand, locking their fingers together. She loved it when he touched her.
They arrived back at the house, and Anastasia didn’t get a chance to take a shower.
Dmitriy pressed her up against the main door, which he had removed of cobwebs. She had come to see that Dmitriy liked keeping a clean house. He couldn’t stand mess, and even though they hadn’t been here long, she could see the transformation of the place. Given time, she had a feeling he would transform it into an amazing home.
His lips were on hers, and she wrapped her arms around his neck. At the same time, he grabbed her ass, pulling her in close, and she circled her legs around his waist.
Gone was the fear. All that remained was this irrefutable attraction. She just wanted to be with him, completely.
He growled against her lips. “Nothing can happen to you,” he said.
“Nothing will happen to me.” But she knew they were just words. There was no way she could guarantee their plan was going to work. All it would take was a suspicious guard, and their plan would fail.
Dmitriy carried her away from the door, and she didn’t avert her gaze but stayed completely focused on him, and they made it to the main bedroom. Slowly, he lowered her to the bed, and she whimpered as he pulled away. She didn’t need to worry about him leaving her as he pulled off his clothes. His shirt was the first to go, followed by his pants.
She was fully dressed as he reached down and stroked his fingers up her thighs. She wore a pair of jeans and an oversized sweater.
It was cold out, and seeing as they made them eat outside, she was glad she wore warm clothes. They made them stay out in the cold for a full thirty minutes to eat their lunch. Perhaps that was the point. She needed to be inside while the soldiers took their lunch break as well.
