“I guess I’ll see.”

“And if she wasn’t?”

Gentry stared out of the rain-streaked window.

Stone didn’t like the fact he didn’t answer.

Of course, if Stone had been asked that same sort of question, he wouldn’t incriminate himself either. Especially to some stranger in a supposed ride share.

“Are you sure you know where we’re going? This isn’t the way to my condo. I think you’re lost.”

“Got it covered. Don’t worry. It’s either drive out of the way a little bit or sit in stopped construction traffic for an hour.”

Five minutes later, Gentry was starting to get antsy. “Can you drop me off at the nearest gas station? I’ll get someone to pick me up from there. You don’t need to take me all the way home.”

Stone’s eyes flicked back up to the mirror. “The ride’s paid for.”

“I don’t care.”

“Sure. Let me find a safe place to drop you.” Only, it wouldn’t be a gas station or any public area. And it definitely wouldn’t be safe. At least for Vic the Dick.

Stone continued heading farther away from civilization.

Gentry slammed the front passenger seat with this palm. “I want out of this vehicle!”

It was a damn shame that Taryn’s ex was getting pissed.

Not that Stone gave a fuck. “Gonna give you what you want. Gotta find somewhere to drop you.”

“But there’s nothing around here. We’re out in the boonies!”

No shit.

He turned onto a dirt service lane that led up to high-voltage power lines. Despite it being rough as fuck, he went far enough off the road that they wouldn’t be spotted on the off-chance someone drove by.

Gentry better hope someone eventually came along, otherwise, he would have a long fucking walk. If he was capable of walking after Stone was done with him.

Stone glanced at his cell phone. No coverage.

Perfect.

“This isn’t a gas station!” The fucker yelled loud enough to make Stone wince.

“None ‘round here.”

“There isn’t even a place to wait. Turn this car around and take me somewhere else!”

“Sound like a whiny bitch, Gentry.”

“What?”

“What fuckin’ part of that didn’t you understand?”

Gentry huffed, “That guarantees you won’t be getting a five-star rating.”

“Oh fuckin’ well,” he muttered as he finally stopped about a quarter mile from the paved road.

Despite the fact they were now out in the woods with nothing around, Gentry immediately tried to get out. “The seatbelt is jammed!”

Another quick glance in the rearview showed that Gentry was yanking on the seatbelt in a panic.

That wasn’t even the reason he should be panicking. But he’d find that out soon enough. “It can be funny like that. Need to get that fixed. Hold on, gonna help you.”

“What kind of piece of shit is this? The door’s stuck, too.” He was shoving at it with all his might.

If he kept yanking on the door handle like that, it would break the fuck off. Then Stone was going to shove it up the man’s ass. “Said I’m gonna help you. Give me a second.”

Stone pulled the keys from the ignition and buried them deep in his front pocket, then shoved open the driver’s door, got out, and rounded the vehicle. He pulled open the passenger door. From all dickhead’s yanking, the seatbelt had tightened even more, pinning him to the back seat.

What a fuckin’ shame.

“Got a message for you from the jackass...” He yanked off his hat and glasses and tossed them inside the car. Stone pulled up his sleeves to expose his tats and smiled. “Remember me, motherfucker?”

Gentry’s eyes went wide, then he immediately scrambled for his cell phone. “You! I’m calling the fucking cops.”

Besides no cell coverage where they were, Stone knew from experience that the man’s phone was dead. It sat for almost a year and a half with the rest of his personal belongings and the fuck if those asshole screws were going to charge it for him.

No coverage and a dead cell phone battery was great for Stone, not so great for Vic the Dick.

“No you ain’t.” Stone took the heel of his palm and slammed it right into Gentry’s nose. It crumpled and began to gush like a stomped grape.

“Hey, you asshole!” he screamed, cupping his hand over his nose.

His smile widened at the satisfaction that brought.

But he wasn’t done yet. Not even close.

“Guess asshole’s an upgrade from jackass.” Stone plucked the useless phone from Gentry’s fingers, dropped it on a large rock, and stomped on it with his boot.

“Hey!” came the muffled shout.

Stone picked up the busted phone and whipped it into the tree line for good measure. With it dead, the location couldn’t even be pinged. The last known location would come up where the battery died. At SCI Dallas.

Stone loved it when a plan came together.

Slipping a knife from his pocket, he flipped it open and began slicing through the seatbelt, freeing the fucker. “Do somethin’ stupid and you’re gonna regret it.”
