“How we deal with club business is just that…club business, so let it fuckin’ go, woman.”

“Listen, I don’t give a crap if you boss your brothers around, but you do not get to boss me around. We had this discussion before. I don’t work for you. I’m only helping you out temporarily.”

Damn. Despite fighting a grin—since he preferred not to have his nuts permanently implanted in his body cavity by her knee—one side of his mouth pulled up.

“You think that’s funny?”

Yeah, he certainly liked the fire in her. His dick agreed. “Think it’s pretty fuckin’ hot when you snap back.” He grabbed her arm again and urged her forward. “C’mon, let’s go before Sunny starts textin’ me every five fuckin’ seconds askin’ where the fuck I am.” If she did, he’d lose his shit for real.

“You took her phone away,” she reminded him.

Fuck, that was right. “Don’t Baby Bird got a phone?” He wouldn’t put it past his girl to use someone else’s to harass her father.

“Of course not. He’s too young.”

Was she trying to make a point that Sunny shouldn’t have one, either?

Stone shoved the back door open and jerked his chin to indicate that she should go through first. Like the fucking gentleman he was, of course.

He snorted softly and followed her outside. “Probably should get him one so he can get a holda you in case your asshole ex tries to snatch him.”

Her cheeks lost all color and she bugged her eyes out at him. “Don’t say that! Vic’s not on the list at the new school.”

He hated to tell her that her ex could snatch him anywhere, not only at a public school. But again, Stone planned on handling that threat. Hopefully before anything like that happened.

“Anyway, Wren needs to concentrate in class, not be playing on his phone. Because that’s what he’d do: play video games.”

“Ain’t allowed to have it out in class.”

“And I’m sure they all follow that rule,” she said dryly.

When they reached her Honda in the paved lot, she paused. “I was thinking...”

He grunted. This should be good.

“The guys swarmed around when I was cooking. They wanted to eat whatever I was making.”

And water was fucking wet. “Why the club decided to cover some of the expenses. You think if the club don’t benefit, we were gonna agree to pay for a goddamn top-of-the-fuckin’-line mixer?” The officers had a quick informal meeting yesterday to get approval for her to use the kitchen for her business and to help fund some of the shit she needed. Luckily, everyone sitting at the table saw how having a chef onsite would benefit them.

The only thing better than empty balls were full guts.

Her mouth twisted. “That wasn’t top of the line.”

“Are you shittin’ me? That contraption cost a shit-ton of scratch.”

“It’s good, but it isn’t the best. Now the best—”

Stone lifted a palm and stopped her right there. “Don’t give a shit.”

He shrugged out of his cut, flipped it inside out, and slipped it back on before climbing behind the wheel of her Pilot.

That had been another argument. Because of her insurance, she didn’t think he should be driving her cage. For fuck’s sake, if it was up to him, he wouldn’t be, either. It was a piece of shit, but his truck wasn’t big enough for two adults and two kids.

Anyway, the fuck if he was letting a woman drive him around if he could help it. He might as well chop off his balls and jam them into Taryn’s new mixer.

Luckily, she didn’t argue this afternoon, unlike this morning. She got right into the passenger side without a complaint.

Thank fuck.

After driving the Honda through the gate, he locked it behind them. Once he slid back behind the wheel and shoved the shifter into Drive, he heard, “Seatbelt.”

He shot her a look.

“My car. My insurance. Follow the laws.”

He continued to stare at her, pulling in an irritated breath.

She smiled and shrugged. “Or I’ll have to drive.”

“For fuck’s sake,” he grumbled, strapping himself in. “Happy?”

“You will be if you get in an accident and it saved you from eating the windshield.”

He turned onto Whiskey Springs Road. “Probably eat the airbag, not the glass.”

“Do you want that pretty mug of yours all messed up?”

He tugged on his chin hairs and shot her a grin. “You sayin’ I’m pretty?”

She stared straight ahead and grumbled, “You’re not half bad.” His grin flattened out when she said, “I have another idea…”

Chapter Seventeen

“I have another idea…”

Muffling his groan at that announcement, he steered the Honda in the direction of the elementary school. He was damn sure their kids were getting impatient. “Never finished the first one.”

“Oh. I was going to ask if I can put any of them to work since they’re circling like—”

“A pack of starving wild dogs? Yeah, long as they don’t got somethin’ to do for the club. The club always comes first. Them stuffin’ their traps don’t. Any of ‘em get’ handsy or if one of the prospects or sweet butts don’t listen when you tell them to do somethin’, lemme or Ogre know. We’ll handle it.”
