He palmed my ass in his hands, squeezing tightly. His lips brushed across my temple, and I squeezed my eyes shut. “Always am, baby girl.”

CHAPTER 4

Rider

Iwatched as Capone shook hands with Copper, nodding his head a couple of times as Copper spoke. Capone gestured toward the weapons and said something before Copper inclined his head to him and stepped back.

I barely resisted curling my lip in distaste. God, I hated Copper. He was a damn good president. I’d give him that. But he was an asshole through and through. I hated it when our club had to deal with him, but it was easier to have him as an ally than an enemy.

Copper had power and his fingers in multiple pies. Being on his bad side wasn’t something we wanted. So, while none of us liked him, we put up with him.

Capone strode over to me and crossed his arms over his chest as we watched Smokey handle the exchange. As the Secretary, Brewer handled the cash exchange, and I glanced over, making sure he was okay. As the Sergeant at Arms, I was supposed to protect Capone, but I protected all of them.

Losing one of them would kill a piece of me. If Capone would’ve allowed it, I would’ve created an officer title called Club Protector. But alas, he wouldn’t. He liked the structure how it was.

Capone wasn’t a fan of change.

“We need to get River out on these runs more,” Capone quietly told me.

I shook my head in disagreement, immediately disliking that idea. And I knew the other guys would agree with me. “River is right where he needs to be—at home with April.” While he was a patched member of the club, we all fiercely protected him—just about as much as we protected April. Though River had strength and I knew deep down he could handle his own, the thought of bringing him out here into the wild with the rest of us, where he could be hurt or killed, made me sick to my stomach.

It was just about equivalent to how I felt about bringing April on a run. It wasn’t happening. River was our baby boy. He needed to be right at home where he was currently.

“He’s a patched member, Rider,” Capone murmured, keeping his voice low so our conversation wouldn’t carry to any members of the Savage Crows MC’s Mother Charter.

I shook my head, clenching my jaw. I was holding firm on this. “If you call a vote on it, I will vote against it,” I warned him, looking at him out of the corner of my eye. He sighed, still watching what was going on around us. I focused on Smokey, watching the way the muscles in his arms flexed as he helped one of the SCMC members load the crates of weapons into the van. “River needs to stay at home with April. He’s safe there, and he’s good protection for our woman if something goes south while we’re gone.”

Capone grunted but nodded, relenting and putting an end to the conversation. I relaxed a little now that the wild-haired idea was out of his head, watching as the other crew got in their vehicles and drove off. We waited until we could no longer hear their engines driving down the road before we got on our bikes to head the other way back home.

“Time to get home,” Tank said with finality as he swung his huge body over his bike. I licked my lips at the sight of him. Fuck, Tank made straddling a bike fucking erotic. “I believe we’ve got a hot as hell woman and fine ass man waiting on us.”

Brewer winked at him. “Don’t forget about us, babe.”

Tank barked out a laugh and strapped his helmet to his head. “First one through the doors of the clubhouse is the first one that gets to have April.”

No one sure as hell had to tell me twice. I slung my leg over my bike, gunned my engine, and tore off down the road.

I had a woman to get home to.

I rushed to the front door, shoving Brewer out of the way with a laugh. He hit the doorframe with an “Oomph,” and I rushed through the door, cackling the entire way. April looked up from where she was chopping vegetables, an alarmed look on her face. Relaxing when she realized it was just me, she beamed, setting down her knife. “Rider!” she exclaimed.

Lowering my body, I pushed my shoulder against her abdomen and lifted her over my shoulder, being gentle with her despite handling her like a sack of potatoes. She shrieked in alarm, her hands gripping my belt. “What the hell, Rider?!” she yelled.

Brewer flipped me the middle finger. “You’re a douchebag, babe.”

I winked at him. “Remember that when I sink in your ass later to punish you.”
