“Bye, Dad,” Leia says. Rick simply nods. I place a hand on Leia’s lower back, and we step out into the snow.

I lead her to the car, place her suitcase in the back, and hold her door open for her. She looks up at me before stepping in. “What a gentleman.” The sarcasm is practically dripping from her lips.

“Any other man in the family wouldn’t tolerate sass like that, you know?” I say as I get in beside her and start the car.

“Oh, so you’re saying I’m lucky?” she asks. “After being traded as debt collateral by my gambling addicted father?”

I can’t help but smile as I pull out of the driveway. Yeah, this girl has me going like nothing I’ve felt in years. Blood rushing to my cock, heart pumping, dirty thoughts racing through my mind…I can’t remember the last time I felt like this. It may be winter outside, but this girl has me hot as hell.

I reach down to my phone and send a quick text. It’s answered almost immediately. Smiling, I take a detour from our route back to my place. Leia notices.

“What? Taking me to your buddy’s place to share me with the rest of the boys?”

“You kidding?” I scoff. “That would never happen, okay? Never. You belong to me now and only me.”

“Reassuring…”

“No, I’m taking you to a shop.”

“A shop?” she asks. “Everything is closed right now.”

“You’d think so, wouldn’t you?” I smile. “For most people, they would be. But for me...”

Leia’s eyes nearly roll out of her skull as she turns away from me and gazes out the window at the snow falling. I chuckle and continue driving. It’s only a few more minutes before we reach Barely There, the high class, practically designer lingerie store, its windows framed with glowing white Christmas lights. I pull up right out front and park. I can see Mary, the store’s owner who I texted earlier, waiting just inside for us.

“You’ve got to be kidding,” Leia groans, practically glaring at me when she sees where we are. I return her glare with a smile and shake my head.

“You said you didn’t have any lingerie. I thought I’d buy you some of the best.”

Before she can protest any further, I hop out of the car, go up to the front door, and look back at her. She sits there for a second, and I can see she wants to be stubborn, but she finally gets out and comes over to me.

“You’re absurd,” she whispers as I open the door for her so she can go inside. I follow after her and am instantly greeted by Mary, who comes right over to us.

“Mr. Romano! How nice to see you!”

“Sterling.” I smile.

“Sterling.” She nods, turning to Leia. “And this is?”

“Leia,” I tell her. “I’m here to pick out a few special things for her. Thought we’d just mostly look around ourselves, but if you had any recommendations, feel free to let us know.”

“Actually, I went ahead and made a few selections already.” Mary smiles, guiding us to a table with several matching sets of lingerie laid out on it. She looks to Leia. “Of course I didn’t know your size, so you’ll find an assortment here to pick through, but these are all quite nice.”

To my surprise, Leia’s eyes actually light up as she looks at the pieces on the table. “Yes, they are.” She nods. She takes a black set, a red set, a white set and a nude color set, all lace, and looks at Mary. “I’ll try these.”

It feels strange…seeing myself in lingerie, especially expensive lingerie like this. I can’t even imagine what the price is, but seeing as how I’m not paying for it, I guess I don’t have to worry about it.

Looking at myself in the full-length mirror, flanked by pastel pink curtains, it’s almost like looking at another person. Just a couple of hours ago, I was at Mucho Mocha wearing my uniform and my apron, and now I’m standing here in lace panties and a lace bra with matching stockings, an outfit designed to make me look as sexy as possible.

The problem is I don’t feel sexy. I feel awkward.

I feel like a horse in roller skates. This just shouldn’t be happening. There’s a reason I’ve never worn lingerie before; I’ve never had a reason to. I’ve never had a boyfriend who’s asked me to, and that’s because I’ve never had a boyfriend who’s lasted longer than two weeks.

There was Timothy Gamrat in eighth grade, and we were “boyfriend and girlfriend” for nine days, which consisted of sending notes to each other and telling other people what to tell each other for us. Oh, and the big kiss we shared in the gym parking lot after the soccer game.

And then there was Ben Hatfield, who I dated my junior year of high school. I had a massive crush on him and thought he was going to be “the one” until I ran into him kissing Katie Simpson in the halls just four days after we became official. After that, I pretty much took a step back from guys and have been stepped back ever since.
