Oh, she’d noticed all right.

She’d noticed everything about him. And she had to say that she liked pretty much everything about him.

Other than the bossiness. And his attention to detail which meant she got away with very little.

And his consequences. Which, he’d informed her on the drive into work, had been postponed but not canceled.

Something to look forward to.

They’d somehow managed to arrive right at work right before her class started.

“I’ve got a plan,” Millie whispered as she and Livvy moved closer to her after the end of class.

“A plan?” she asked hesitantly.

“To help the puppies,” Millie said quietly, looking around surreptitiously.

Which didn’t look suspicious at all.

Matthieu looked over at them assessingly.

“Matthieu is growing suspicious of us,” she told them.

“Probably because we keep ending up in huddles after your class,” Livvy said.

"We gotta act casual,” Millie said.

“How do we do that?” Livvy asked.

“With a casual pose.” Millie leaned back, putting a hand on the small of her back.

“You look like you’ve fallen over and hurt your butt,” Livvy told her dryly.

“Then it’s not an act. Because my butt really does hurt,” Millie pouted as she straightened. “I kept telling Spike that I needed to visit Maya and my godbabies and he kept saying no. He finally got tired of saying no and threatened to spank me if I asked one more time.” Millie shrugged. “I asked one more time.”

“Oh, no,” she said as Livvy giggled. “I’m so sorry.”

“Why?” Millie gave her a surprised look. “It’s not your fault.”

“Don’t worry,” Livvy told her. “Millie knew exactly what she was doing.”

Millie just grinned. “Spike was all ‘we’re not going over there, Maya is being threatened and it might not be safe.’ But that was just an excuse. I mean, I’m still coming to your yoga classes. He said that’s different. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want me to come to your place because he thinks that I will want to start adopting pigs and chickens.”

“And you don’t?” she asked worriedly.

“Oh no, he’s right. I totally would want to do that.”

Okay, she understood why Livvy was laughing.

Maya smiled. “You’re going to get a pig now, aren’t you?”

“You bet your patootie, I am.” Millie nodded. “And I’m going to dress him as a Triceratops for Halloween. He’s going to look amazing.”

“Anyway,” Livvy said. “Back to what we were talking about. We have a plan to help you save the puppies. Millie and I are signed up for the next class.”

“You are?” Puppy yoga was only on Saturdays at the moment. And David always took the class. She was usually teaching a class at the same time or just after so she never had a chance to do much about the puppies.

“Yep. And then Millie is going to wait outside in her car. I can’t stay, I’ve got to get home to the boys. She’s going to watch for when the puppies are packed up and follow the vehicle. Then we’ll know where they’re keeping the puppies. And she can see the conditions they live in.”

“I thought about putting a tracker on Davy’s vehicle,” Millie said quietly. “But then I worried that he might use a different vehicle to transport the puppies. Plus, this way I can see the place with my own two eyes and assess the living conditions for the puppies.”

“Umm. I don’t know. What if David sees you?”

“He won’t see me,” Millie said. “He’s arrogant. He would never believe someone would follow him.”

Probably true. She still felt uneasy. “I should be doing this.”

“But you can’t,” Livvy said. “You’ve got a shadow who isn’t going to approve of our plan.”

Shoot.

She was right. Still . . .

“I’m the best person for the job. I’m just going to tell Spike that I’m having coffee after class. Don’t worry, Livvy is grabbing me a coffee from the shop while I wait so it’s not a lie. And I’m really good at recon. Ask anyone. Well, not anyone, just people I know. Well, except for Spike or any of his friends. Or Reverend Pat. Ask Livvy or Sunny or Betsy. They’ll tell you.” Millie nodded authoritatively.

Um. All right.

“I’ll take your word.”

“Yay!” Millie clapped her hands. “So we’re a go.”

“I’m just worried about you—”

“Why are you worried?” Matthieu asked from behind her.

She let out a cry. “Where did you come from?”

“From across the room,” he said dryly.

“Yes, but how did you get here?” she asked.

“I walked.”

“Are you sure? You were so quiet. You didn’t just levitate?” She wouldn’t be surprised.

“No. I didn’t just walk on air. Now, why are you worried?”

“I’m worried that Spike isn’t going to let Millie take my animals if something happens to me,” she quickly lied.

He scowled.

Oh crap. Did he know she was lying? That meant more consequences. She might even get a red bottom like Millie.

No, you won’t. Remember he said that he only spanks women he’s in a relationship with or when he’s at a club.
