I turn my wife to me and kiss her deeply. My hands trace the wondrously curvy lines of her pregnant body. Our second child will be here in four months.
We’ve decided not to know the gender beforehand. But if it’s a boy, he’ll be named Ivan. And if it’s a girl, she’ll be named Anya.
I look around at our magical homestead, gleaming with golden light. At my gorgeous wife, the woman who saved me. And the window on the second floor where I know my son is sleeping safe and sound.
How did I end up being such a lucky bastard? Especially after all I’ve done?
It’s because of her.
Not only did she save me, she made me a new man. A better man. A man who might actually deserve the immense happiness he now enjoys.
I lead her over to the porch and feed her some of the fresh peach I’ve been eating. Her eyes twinkle up at me as she chews. Everything about her is beauty. Perfection.
“Remember when you walked me down the aisle?” she asks.
“Of course I do.”
“Remember how you almost cried?” she says with a wink. She loves teasing me, knowing that she’s the one person who can get away with it.
“I didn’t cry,” I reply, poking her in the ribs.
She giggles. “Oh, you absolutely did. Anton took pictures.”
“Remind me to kill him later.” I smirk.
She laughs, knowing we’re both just kidding with each other. The old Viktor would have meant it, but this one just makes empty threats while his pregnant wife makes his life worth living.
“Do you miss it, Viktor? The power? Your empire?”
I shake my head. “Not for a second. I thought it was what I wanted, but you showed me what life is truly about.”
Bella smiles up at me, and I take her hand in mine.
I love her unconditionally. No matter her mood, no matter the circumstances. Nothing will ever take her away.
I’m not The Ice Man anymore. Not the king of New York City.
What I am now is Bella’s husband, and that’s more than enough for me.
