“Because you suffered a punctured lung. From someone stabbing you,” he said. “After you suffered a mild concussion from a car accident. You’re pretty banged up and bruised, and I hate to tell you this, but your new bike is totaled.”

Goddammit.

“Saved your cookie, though.” He pointed to the tray table.

There wasn’t much cookie left, and I had a feeling one of the ladies at my sides were responsible.

I smirked. “Doesn’t look like there’s much left.”

“Can’t say that I blame them for eating their feelings. They just went through flights from hell. Barely got here when you got out of surgery about two hours ago. You just woke up, though. They’re exhausted.”

“What happened?” I asked.

“Not really sure, to be honest,” he admitted. “You never showed up, so we backtracked your steps, and Apollo was able to track your bike to that field. There was a car on top of the bike, too.”

“Who’d the car belong to?” I asked.

He winced. “Your favorite coffee connoisseur.”

I shook my head. “You’ve got to be shitting me.”

“Cops already have her in custody,” Chevy said. “She’s not going to be going anywhere any time soon. She was stupid enough to have a damn dash cam of it all. Apollo is already working on getting that to the police in a way it can be admissible in court.”

“Fuckin’ awesome,” I mumbled. “What all is wrong with me?”

“Nothing broken, thank God,” he said. “Bruising around your head and neck. Some burn marks from the muffler hitting your back. Glad you had your cut on. It’s toast, though.”

A new cut was better than a fucked up back from burns.

“What else?”

“Nothing. You were goddamn lucky. Though you were in surgery because they had to, uh, reattach something.”

My brows rose.

“What?”

He pointed at his ear.

My mouth fell open. “My ear’s fuckin’ gone?’

“Not gone.” Silver looked up, her eyes slightly heavy with fatigue. “You’ll just have a funky new scar where it was sewn back on. They thought it was worse than it was, which was why these douchebags weren’t updating us.”

“It wasn’t my idea not to tell you anything. I was called in to put him under sedation. It was the rest of them listening to the goddamn rookie paramedic talking about how bad it was that you should blame.” Chevy grinned.

Silver’s watery eyes came to me and she said, “I’m so glad that you’re okay.”

I squeezed her hand that I hadn’t realized I was holding until now. “I’m sorry you had such a shitty day.”

“Oh, you have no idea.” Eedie sat up and rubbed at her eyes. “She yelled at a congressman in the middle of the airport and literally told the world that she was going to put him in an early grave and make sure that Apollo beat him out of office before she did.”

Silver winced. “He made me mad.”

I chuckled and turned my head, wincing when my ear screamed.

“Always have my back, don’t you, baby?”

She leaned forward fiercely and said, “Always.”

I was once again back on a plane heading to Hawaii, but this time it was with the man of my dreams at my side.

“How likely do you think it is that our flight attendant would turn a blind eye to us going into that bathroom and earning our mile high card?”

I looked at my husband—and yes, he was my husband, even if we were about to fly to Hawaii and re-tie the knot on the beach.

No one knew we’d gotten married at the courthouse.

Well, no one but Eedie and Hai.

The rest of them thought they were witnessing our nuptials for the first time tomorrow.

I smiled as we took the next step that would lead us onto the plane from the gangway.

“About zero…” I trailed off when a familiar set of eyes met mine.

“Oh!” I breathed as I rushed forward and threw my arms around the woman that’d saved the day.

The woman hugged me back, and she held me for a long moment, uncaring that we were holding up the entire plane boarding.

“I didn’t think I’d ever see you again,” she breathed. “I’m so glad to see you here. And this is your fiancé?”

I leaned in to whisper, “Husband, but nobody else knows. We’re supposed to be getting married this weekend.”

She smiled. “Where are you sitting so I can come talk to you after the flight takes off?”

I pointed to our first-class seats and she smiled. “Perfect.”

Webber caught my hand and led me to the inside seat, then blocked my exit with his big body.

“That’s her? The one that gave you the seat?” he asked.

I nodded.

“I like her. What’s her…”

“Creole Williams,” Audric’s deep, angry voice sounded. “Can’t say it’s a pleasure.”

Creole, my newfound friend, whose name I didn’t know until now, sneered at Audric. “Ahh, Audric. The boy who loved me and left me without a single explanation as to why.”
