Life in Ardnoch had grown quiet again. Monroe, Lennox, and I had a fairly normal life, considering. True, if we ventured farther afield, photos of us ended up on the internet somewhere. Once we started planning holidays abroad, I’d hire security to accompany us. We might be safe at home, but that didn’t mean I was comfortable traveling with my wife and son without protection.

“Ery and Arran seem so happy,” Monroe observed as she stared into my eyes.

My grip on her tightened. “If they’re half as happy as we are, they can count themselves lucky.”

She studied me thoughtfully. “You’re still happy, then?”

“So fucking happy it’s terrifying,” I promised her.

Roe gave me an understanding smile. “Me too.”

“I’ll be even happier if you get naked right now.”

My wife barked a laugh before she eased herself off me. Her gaze turned sultry. “Would you like a striptease, Mr. Adair?”

Leaning back on my hands, uncaring of my half-nakedness, I felt a renewed rush of blood flood my cock. “I would like that very much, Mrs. Adair.”

A bang on the hotel door made us both jump in fright. “Brodan, you’re missing your brother’s reception!” Thane’s voice was filled with laughter and more than a small hint of whisky.

“Fuck off! I’m making love to my wife!” I shouted back.

“You can make love to your wife anytime!”

“If you don’t get away from that door, I will end you, you sadistic bastard!”

Thane’s deep, booming laughter filtered through the walls, and then I heard Regan’s voice. “Thane Adair, get away from that door!”

“Aw, I’m just having fun, mo leannan.”

“Yeah, well, you just see how you like it when you haven’t had sex in months after the baby’s born, and someone interrupts our opportunity.”

“What do you mean months?” We heard his outraged question just as their voices trailed off.

I looked at Monroe and found her chuckling hysterically to herself as she tried to strip off her clothes.

Seeing her there, mirth in her eyes, amusement flushing her cheeks as she struggled to undress through her giggles, it wasn’t quite what I’d imagined when she’d offered a striptease.

But fuck, the sight of her was perfect, anyway.

I wouldn’t want her or the life with our son that we’d fought hard to win to be anything other than what it was.

It was about family.

And we were an imperfect but bloody great family, we Adairs.

“Come here, wife. Let me help you with that dress.”
